I'm really enjoying Spotify so far. The playlists are just amazing. And there are so many of them. The Android app is extremely well made too, and through it I was finally able to activate premium.
I've never understood the point of South Africans having Spotify accounts. You have to access via DNS and the US subscription is expensive at $9.99pm, whereas we have perfectly legal and cheaper alternatives with Deezer, Google Play Music, Apple Music and Simfy.
It's simply really, Spotify has been around longer than any of those, there were no real alternatives. I've made the switch to Apple Music last year but if Spotify become available officially in SA I'd switch in a heartbeat. It's just superior to any alternatives (granted I haven't given Google Music a proper go)
I just discovered that if you have Spotify Premium, geographical restrictions are not enforced. I'm using the desktop app just fine atm, with no DNS or VPN active.
Yup, I used premium for +-3 years. I wish they would just support SA officially already.
Why did you stop? I remember in 2014 Spotify rolled out to new countries, and said they had ambitious expansion plans. Pretty bs SA still hasn't been included.
Well when Apple Music came out I made the switch, since it's supported locally I have the added benefit of not worrying about subs - and it's cheaper than buying Spotify gift cards. That being said, iTunes is just horrible and I wouldn't think twice about switching back if they supported SA officially.
I used to use spotify but my account is a UK one and the monthly charge is the second highest in the countries they operate in. It's about $15 US a month for UK as opposed to $10 if you have a US account.
And now that I got moved to Singapore last week, I see that Singapore is even cheaper at $7 US a month. So once I get a bank account and credit card, I will be back on spotify here.

That Singapore pricing is not too bad at all.
I've been using Deezer and thoroughly enjoying it. I'm still a free user.
How would South Africans go about buying a Singapore sub though? $2.91 would be awesome if it's possible.
I see Spotify also gives students 50% off. Wish these people would launch in SA already. Jumping these hoops is ridiculous.
How does this compare to Simfy?
As a afrihost client you pay that R99 extra, get double data, access to Simfy 500mb extra mobile data etc
How?
