Who's the mod in this section?

Simplest solution I can think of is have a News section where FiestaST can post to all his heart content. And a discussions section. I'm here for the discussions not being force fed marketing shyte.

I can go with this. Reckon it will stimulate more discussions, new threads, bit more banter.

I’m the one who called the missing thread spam, because the poster has quite a few times in the past posted copy and paste stuff with a link to Subaru Johannesburg. It’s pretty clear if you scanned through his posts that he is affiliated to them, and only posts here to put up marketing stuff specifically for them here.

And I agree with almost all of what Pitbull said about Fiesta’s posts with the exception of the bit where he mentions that he appreciates them. I don’t, I just scroll past. From time to time I’ll go into one of his threads but it’s usually because I’ve mistakenly thought it might have some discussion in.

I’d love to see some stats on what percentage of the posts in this sub forum are copy and paste ‘news’ and how many are actually discussions about motoring.

Which I agree with. However, bwana is claiming it was SPAM. Did I miss something?

I was quite tempted to mark that thread as spam, it was bordering on advertising judging by the users other posts

I don't know the poster or even knows who posted it.

I only noticed this morning while following Pinball Wizard's link that it's written by Subaru Johannesburg. I didn't even notice that on the article posted yesterday.
So I don't see it as spam, but like I said, maybe I missed something.

I think what you missed were the other similar posts by the [new] member directing people to the site.

Which could very well be the case. I don't know who the OP was. Just found the article interesting. Wanted to read it and it was gone.

So I can't comment on that. I do however still feel we have valid concerns between a discussion and a news section for motoring don't you?

You might - mods don't have any say-so about forum layout and subsections though. That's all the purview of the admins. Sometimes people complain that there are too many subs, sometimes they complain there are too few.

Best you all reach a consensus and I'll do my best to draw their attention to it.

Make that on the MyBB forum. An abundance of copy & paste of news articles. It's like none of the forum users know about News24, IOL, or any other sites on the internet, so a few copy & paste fanatics has to spam the forum to hell & back. Unless you are on the forum 24/7 you miss a great deal of interesting threads as they don't show up in the "What's New" link which only runs to 4 pages. Majority of articles in those 4 pages are often copy & paste spam.
If I want to read News24 I'll go there. Ditto with Motoring24 or IOL or any other site. But that's just my R0-02.

Crikey yes. 2 sections: Motoring copy & paste spam and then a discussion one. That is a really grand idea.

Thank you bwana, that is all we can ask. Please assist with a poll?

Can you have a discussion on the News24 and IOL website about a particular article ?

I quite like reading the articles here. Partly due to the fact that you immediately get differing points of view, and partly, cause it doesn't have all the pics and nonsense here.

I too appreciate FiestaSTs article from time to time as something will catch my eye. There is a place for it, but not at the expense of discussion threads though. Having a section where only news drowns out news is fine. This is a forum, not a news information site.

I read to get the news. Not to discuss it. Perhaps it is because I don't have all that much time to spend on the forum - I've noticed many people seem to spend the entire working day posting sorry - "discussing" on the forum.

Makes me glad I'm not their employer

I do tend to agree that a forum is meant for USER CONTENT and not just linking through to other places and a copy/paste...that's what I have Twitter for.

As much as I like FiestaST's posts it does lack personal opinion and therefore lacks user content as such, so splitting it out would make a lot of sense.

For that matter it can go under the news section all together if it's sourced in content.

Also, why isn't the motorcyclists thread stickied after we've asked plenty times? I think after 450+ pages, it's earned sticky status.

You must RBP the OP and request it. The mods don't read every single post in every single thread just in case someone asked for a sticky. I've even mentioned this several times but I'm not about to blow my own horn and request a sticky
