Why anti-LAN Blizzard????

Diablo 2 was most known for it's awesome multiplayer.A lot of ppl i know bought this game just for it's great multiplayer fun. Why they taking it away from Diablo3 is just beyond me. I also think a lot people now is going to think twice before buying Diablo3.
Yea you can still play it online etc.. but it just isn't exactly the same as laning with friends and playing it.

Touche', I actually read a on couple of websites that a lot of people will not be buying D3 for that reason.
Doubt it will do any good.

just like the mw2 not buy campaign worked . this will only work if no one really do not buy the game. which will not happen.

That's what's p1ssing me off, I hate the fact that they don't support LAN on D3, but chances are I will still get it.
If it is only half as good as D2, it will be bloody beautiful.

Multiplayer does not mean lan. When Diablo 2 was released the internet was not as developed as it is now in the first world. You needed lan to organise multiplayer. Now lan is only used for the tournaments for social multiplayer is done via the net.

exactly.

On the subject of online play, I need a bit of help (as I am completely new to online multiplayer)
Let's take CoD MW2 for example, how much of a dent does it make to your caps when playing, let's say 3 hours, online?

I'm upgrading my ADSL line to 4mb, so I want to try it and see how it goes.

I really hope so. I love LAN gaming with friends (2 or 3 people), but I HATE online gaming (I'm a very small minority, I know).

+1
I only play online if I have no other choice. Luckily me and a friend are sharing a house as of next month, so we can lan whenever we want.

I'll rephrase that.
A lot of my friends bought the game for it's lan:) since a lot of them don't have adsl or wireless which doesn't work very well for gaming. And for me the game was much more fun on lan then online.
My bad

BLizzard doesnt care for the 10 people in south africa that has internet at 1 kb/s they care for the millions who has 20-50MB/s connections in the rest of the world

Can't tell you exactly, it varies wildly depending per game and how fast the game is and how many "loading/zoning/instancing" is involved. A slower paced, -static- open world game like World of Warcraft is about 10MB an hour, a FPS game with alot of zoning/loading/changes can easily go up to 50MB an hour. Now add voice services (Ventrillo/Teamspeak) which almost becomes compulsory with fast paced games and it might increase further by quite a bit. r MMOs like Star Wars Galaxies and Second Life with alot of "player content" which needs to download as you walk around (i.e. a player built house that wasnt' there yesterday) , can use alot more bandwidth too.

Best is to get a bandwidth monitor that records per application and play an hour and see. Problem with most games is, alot funnel alot of updates too (Guildwars is a good example) that makes it look like the game is using alot of bandwidth but it is actually updating the entire zone you just entered. I believe Xbox/PS3 also have a habit of pushing through updates [new maps etc] like this.

Yeah this piracy thing is getting out of hand, and big companies like Blizzard are just being stupid. Not having LAN as an option is the dumbest thing they could have done. LAN's made these games big.
