Why! answer me WHY do mac have to cost an arm, leg, liver, lung, first born child, most of you familys organs?
Huh can any please explain to me why in South Africa, you either have to be a millionaire or be content with slowly dying of hunger. There are no other factors to being a mac owner.
I've wanted a mac ever since i played around on a friends. But can Justin Afford the mac of his dreams no. In fact the chances of me ever being able to afford are less than zero.
Often i will sit and look at the macbook pro, i even watch videos of it on youtube. I need a macbook pro. I have to have it!

Thats not going to happen so i hope you enjoyed my rant.

Anyone have a Macbook Pro they are looking to get rid of?

We're not quite sure but try http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=81403

Dude, start small. I picked up an old-stock Mac Mini PPC from Digicape (brand new, still sealed) for about R3000 iirc last year. Start with something like that and save up the money you would have spent on Norton Antivirus in the meantime :-)

Mac's generally are not cheap, but keep in mind they are high end machines and are competitively priced with machines in the same class from manufacturers like dell and hp.

You're best bet is to either save a little every month till you can afford the mac of your choice or continue to look for a secondhand machine.

Well I would love to be able to save up, but the tax man takes so much of my money that feeding my self and getting around starts to become hard.

Yes they might be high end machines that can do amazing things, but i struggle to understand why they are so much more when compaired to buying the same machine in america. I have checked on the american apple store and then done the exchange. Often it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than it is for us in SA. Explain this? and considering that a new MACBOOK pro is out, why are the prices sky high? Another thing, considering the US dollar has gone down a lot over the last couple of days, should not the american toys that I seek also have come down in price considering the one I want all most the sites is never in stock?

Check that link I gave, it's a little small, but it's still a MAC ;)

Because we get screwed by the importers and resellers here. As usual. For what it's worth, they're much more expensive in the UK too. Entry level MBP in the UK is ÂŁ1300, in the US it's $1999 (i.e. ÂŁ1000) - ÂŁ300 difference!

I saw that link of yours. However i think trying to work with RAW on a 350mhz imac would prove to be a headache after you bang your head against the wall until you fall down from lose of blood.

I should just accept the fact that I will never own one.

Well, I don't know much about you (age, job etc.) but never say never dude. You might get a break soon.

If you don't, which I highly doubt, something better than a MAC will come along.

Peace ;)

I'm a 24year old journalist/photographer in Port Elizabeth...

Dude, you've got plenty of time. I'm 23 and I'll be 24 next year March, I'm a student and I've got nothing as well. Give it time, things are looking up for me and they will get better, you can count on that ;)

I have a 17" powerbook that handles raw quite well. Granted, not as well as my 17" MBP, but still well enough not to complain.

Ja well, its just not going to happen. Really its not going to happen. Unless I will a crap load of money all of a sudden then its just not going to happen.
ARGH! why must everything cost so much money? WHY!?!?!?

I mean jezz the only reason I am at work this late, i finsihed oh about 3 hours ago is cos i want to spend time on the internet cos I dont have it at home.

Its worth the money. :)

Ever played with Aperture?

Its fine dude. It just makes me really upset, that after buying food, putting fuel in the car and so forth i am already broke and cant afford to do anything. I really get paid nothing, i really cant live like this. It just makes me upset that I cant even put money away for a rainy day.
Shouldn't make my problems other peoples.

ja...

So its been a year. A lot of ups and downs, more downs than ups. But such is life.
For all those that want to know... I am now the proud owner of... the same PC I had last year. oh yeah baby!
Still no macbook pro.
In fact I've given up totally and now, sadly.
