Why BlackBerry lost its cool-factor in South Africa

South Africa was one of the last countries that still loved BlackBerry, so how did it lose its grip here?

It only stayed popular long after it was overtaken in just about every regard, because of kids, bbm and BIS.

If it wasnt for having to force reboot it every 4 hours I would probably still have my blackberry that thing was epic!

The full package up until it started failing and needing manual reboots and constantly hanged

My blackberry did not need manual reboots ... it would just do it on its own every two hours or so lol.

Was always a crap device compared to its competition. I suppose it appealed to kids and broke people because of the cheap BIS. I'm glad that it went to hell, and the operators started capping it etc. - it forced everyone people to move with the times...

All I know is the wife had 2 of them; not cheapie ones...yrs ago & they both ****ed up.

Blackberry 8520 curve lasted a long time Not such a bad phone.

Remember the infrared pointer button.. that broke after 12 months of use so u always got a new BB mid contract hahahaha

uhm BIS got severely limited after a few abused it.. data costs came down drastically during that period (2011-2012) and iPhone/Android app stores improved and gained enough apps by +/- 2010/1 such that when the iPhone 4 rolled out it was suddenly a compelling buy.
