Why can't Telkom sort out my Line Sync problem?

I dont have many friends here lol. I had a mecer modem a few months back, when I got adsl, and it was the same with him then, not as bad as now, but still. So I helped someone by buying this modem from him, and at first it seemed better, but surely not now. Wonder if telkom will "lend" me one to test this?

Yes, the technician should have one of his own modems to test the line. Surely they would have done that by now. Is your modem still under Telkom contract? Or is it your own? They will charge you a service fee if they find out that the problem was your own equipment.
 
Thats the thing I'm worried about now. The techie had his own here to test, but then all was good, including mine. It is my own modem, and I think it is older than a year. But they will only be able to proof that my modem is the fault if they test it, or give me a test modem to try for a day or 2. Otherwise They cant proof that, or can they?
 
So I hooked up this old meccer router to check how it goes. Please wish me luck. Thanks all so far.
 
You know, i have exactly the same problem. My line loses sync every 5 minutes... This started happening 4-5 days ago but I wasn't at home enough to bother. Now when I log into my router, i see it synchronizes at 3488/512. A minute Prior to that it was 3500 something.

Why is it that it was perfect before and now when they stuff something up, I'm the one that gets downgraded?!?!

AAAARGH.
 
Sofar my dsl synchronized for last night I posted the reply, till now no disconnects. So maybe it was the modem. I'll give it a go till the weekend, and hook the marconi one up again, just to see what it does.

Where can I have this modem checked? If it is the modem then, I would like to get it fixed just to have a working spare.
 
check the router settings, your settings should match these

virtual circuit enabled
bridge disabled
igmp disabled
encapsulation PPPoE LLC

ATM
VPI 8
VCI 35
Service Catergory UBR
 
Still working so far. I'm so glad its all working again. Sorry Telkom, seems like me hardware was the problem.
