Not really, considering that VAT is already factored into the price on everything you buy and is not levied after the fact. Comparing VAT to income tax is rather silly.

VAT is a form of income tax. When VAT was proposed, it was supposed to replace the PAYE income tax. Of course government lied and instead of replacing PAYE, it now complements it.

Do you really think that goods get from production, to poor people, without vat being levied at any point? Even if the final vendor isn't vat registered, vat is still a part of their input cost.

Nowhere was it claimed that only some people pay tax. The statement was that those who have financial means - i.e. taxpayers - are double taxed, which is true. (In actuality, if you consider VAT as a tax that everyone pays, then taxpayers are TRIPLE taxed!)

Sad to read this article but not surprised as it was initiated by a DA member. Anyway, I used to say "I will vote for the party that will bring happiness in my area". Yes, Our DA councillor does not want to meet with residences. Our communication with her is though emails.

For a start it is incorrect to say that EVERYONE pays tax. Then there are a few items that are zero rated.

The 50% of which you speak is always going to be greater than 14%. And the point being made by Humberto is that the rich dude gets nailed at a marginal rate and then has to pay the 14%.

Rebates for medical aid are less than the amount paid.
