What's the difference between a small trafic circle and a big traffic circle, the sign says its a circle i.e. give way to traffic comming from right. It is not a four way stop, else you would have seen the stop signs!!

On approaching a circle I generally only look right and go if cool, suddenly some dude will just go and turn right in from of me because he thought he was there first, this is stuffing up the flow of traffic that is why its a circle in the first place.

I'm not talking about traffic calming zones, these circles don't have a circle sign in front of it. If it has a circle road sign is that not the law? I know the law means nothing but road rules is there to predict everyones behaviour for a safer journey.

WOW, glad I got that of my shoulders!

I know how u feel... I grew up in the capital of traffic circles of south africa, Welkom. There's nothing but traffic circles there. I moved to joburg a few years ago, and my goodness. Nobody knows what a traffic circle is here. Everybody treats it like a flippin four way stop. What was worse was some time back i was approaching a traffic circle and simply observed right and since there was no car inside the circle i proceeded. Some idiot coming from the left started throwing obscene gestures at me for not stoping before i went in. like WTF???? And he was livid. According to him i was supposed to wait for him. Really frustrating...

Most people struggle with four-way stops, so it is no surprise they can't manage a traffic circle. Want some real entertainment watch the idiots when the traffic lights go out.

Some idiots just drive over the circle.... how do they even have licences ??

LOL! Yeah, I've seen that but sometimes the circle is so exaggerated that you either drive over some it or over some of the pavement (curb?).
Most folks up here in JHB seem to treat them as four way stops.

on william nicol by the highway

Big traffice circles you give way to traffic from the right, the smaller circles is a first come first go like a 4 way stop.

No, small traffic circles work exactly the same as big ones. Yield to the right.

Yup, exactly wrong. There is a little sign that shows a 'give way to right' on it, not a four way stop sign. If a 80km/h sign is posted on a highway do you still drive 120km/h because it is a big road?

Yes yield to the right, but if you were there before the person at your right, he/she should let you go first.

It doesn't work like this though.

its a thing thats built into S.A drivers they all treat it as a 4 way stop. Theres no skill in anticipating and reading the traffic flow which in Jozi is part of the traffic woes.

what also annoys me is when some1 on the right, and they were already at the circle when i'm approaching, give you some sort of hand signal or flash you to go ahead, it just confusing.

No, even if you were there first, you have to let the person to your right go first, that's the law!

I found that there are 2 ways to use a circle depending where you life. Driving schools from different locations teach people differently, hence the confusion.
In Pretoria its if you are first to stop behind the line then you may go.
In the cape its always yield to your right.

If you want to turn left or go straight you stay in the outer ring. If you want to exit right then you use the middle ring. I don't get how this is difficult?

Just drive like a maniac and everyone will get out of your way - that's how you're supposed to do it. :p

Yup. Whenever I approach a traffic circle I look to my right and if there are no cars I just go. Had quite a few near accidents before when some guy on my left tries to pull out in front of me. Fscking morons!!!!
