Why do people not understand traffic circles

Pls explain to me how you yield to a car in the circle if the cirlce is the size of a jaccuzi?

Because of the size you enter the circle as you approach it. If someone is in the circle already you can't go in also as there is no space. Dono what cirlces you see but those in gauteng planted in the middle of a normal 4 way stop intersection can't take 2 cars anyway :p

I wish these "know it all" drivers would use their noggen sometimes. Yes, Welkom has huge circles, you can't use the same logic on the smaller ones. It will cause massive accidents. and the OP seems to be a cause of those accidents :p
 
It is always give way to the right, but this is SA guys.

Trying to get ANY rule of the road into anyone's thick skull seems almost impossible. :rolleyes:
 
I absolutely loved the irony of this thread. That being said, I am glad to that the OP admitted to his mistake - one can only hope that admission translates to his day-to-day driving.

Anyway, there are already rules regulating how traffic circles should be used which are ignored :) Mostly by people who think that people should always give way to those on their right :p

It depends where you are in the country, there used to be an unwritten law in different areas, in the old days the kaapies and vaalies didn't sit on the same fire.

In Pretoria: the first person to cross the line may go, if you are there at the same time, yield to your right
In Cape Town: wait for hours until every single person on your right has passed.
 
Well then I guess you did not read the comments from the previous posters regarding the use of small traffic circles. ie. First come first serve.

It's a matter of interpretation, methinks. Technically the rule is give way to traffic IN THE CIRCLE approaching from the right. The size of a mini-roundabout merely means applying the same rule effectively has them operate in a similar fashion to a 4-way stop... without the explicit need to come to a dead standstill.
 
Just to carry on splitting hairs. When a car is in the circle it is actually approaching from the right. If you don't give way to it you will probably be klapped.

I don't see what is so difficult to understand.

so theoretically if all 4 cars come from all 4 corners then no one is allowed to drive? A circle in Gauteng (taught my driving schools and accepted by driving instructors if I might add), is done as follows: the first person to cross the line, has to go, i.e. like a stop street. If you are there at the same time THEN yield to your right.

OK. Don't worry.

It would appear as if the South African bug has bitten you really well. Just ignore all the other cars, as they shouldn't be there any way. You have exclusive right to travel around the circle or drive over the top of it if you wish. First person into the circle wins and all others beware.

Time to buy a Ratel. :rolleyes:
