Why do people tint their windows?

I need smash and grab or at least a tint.

My car spends so much time in the sun that the panels have lifted!
The flipping clips behind it actually contract and expand because of heat and then the aircon and it's forced out :(

Still speaking with the dealserships about a permanent fix for it, but I think tint is at least one way forward.

Don't you hate it when your car has standing in the sun all day and when you get in it feels like a sauna, that and the steering wheel thats too hot to touch?

Definitely and it's those times where I'd rather start the car and let the aircon do it's thing for 3 minutes or so.

My car came with Individual protection glazing (tinted rear screen and rear side windows). I notice the big difference when I leave my car in the sun. Its a lot cooler than my previous car without tinting.
 
I didn't like tint...esp on retro cars..or that fake tint that's as black as the night. A good quality tint will be about 2k upwards - mine has the privacy tint - you can see out like daylight...but not so if you want to see inside...

Is that whats it called, privacy tint? Where did u hav it done and howmuch?

The aircon may take care of the heat inside the car, but the sunburn can still hit you pretty badly.

Tint is extremely useful against solar radiation. And I mean the proper tint that'll set you back R1500 upwards, not the cheapass crap they sell you on the side of the road :P

I fully agree with u. i think one of the investment i made to my old polo classic is to put one of those tint that also protect windows from shattering. they also said that you cant break the window, although i didnt want to argue it out. it cost me a small fortune then, R1600, that was 6 years ago, and still no single scatch or bubble.

Quite simple: For safety and comfort

Safety: Anti-smash film is normally darker than normal windows, hence the tinted look. Also, people can't see (that easily) if there is something to maybe steal
Comfort: A 50% tint on my Land Rover, makes a 4-5 degree Celsius difference on the cabin temperature --- very useful when you are up in Africa
 
The problem with darker tint is driving in the rain and at night. I had one of those street tint on my RunX. It really looked cool and all that. but u get near zero visibility. it not fun.
 
1: Protects the interior from UV
2: Hard to see in to the car at night at intersections
3: Serves a dual purpose with smash and grab protection for when they try and break your window anyway.
4: looks great on a lot of cars.
5: Helps prevent glare from the side and protects your skin.

Why wouldn't you get a tint ?
 
PRivacy tint is done when you get the car from the stealers...I think you can take you SEAT to VW and ask them to do eeeet....think its like between 2-3k...also keeps lotsa sun rays out, so your right arm won't be darker than your left arm!
