Because their money, their car.

Germans and Japanese also do stupid things.
 
I think it's great they do this.
I mean it's relatively straight forward why isn't it? They like how it looks, they want to stand out from the crowd, expressing themselves. Or, well, just cos.
Isn't that one of the best things of motoring? It's for everyone, rich, not so rich, you can take your citi golf or s class and just make it a bit of your own - rims, ride, spoilers, filters, exhausts, whatever.
In a world of white Toyotas (I own a white Toyota) and silver Audis, where we all look the same and dress the same, be the guy with an orange, spoilered, lowered, sub woofered C class.
 
My favourite with this type of thing is when the money was spent on extras but then the pain is peeling off or the two doors don’t match in colour.

Or worse you can literally hear the engine misfiring for lack of maintenance …but the wheels are gleaming.

I’m with you and individualisation is cool.

But then fit a little boot spoiler or colour code something differently or change the wheels if you must.

Fitting a massive wing that likely makes the car slower or handle worse just doesn’t make any sense.

It’s also somewhat hilarious when this is all done on the base model of a car and the cost could have gone into the top spec instead.

To you and me maybe. In any event why does it have to make sense? Plenty fashion items don't make sense. Pretty shoes that twist your toes and hurt your feet don't make sense.
No-one is going to do something to their car they don't want. They looked at it, said heck yeah, maybe showed a friend or two, that friend said heck yeah, they got it, they're presumably happy. When they hop out their car they look back before walking off, cos they think dang that looks good. Not many of us can say that. Sure other folk will look and laugh, like with anything really. Doesn't need to make sense to anyone else.
Japan this is pretty big - outlandish exhausts, neon lights, weird front splitters.
Those suspension set ups where the car jumps around and can ride on three wheels? Makes no sense but damned if I don't want one. It's motoring, for all shapes and sizes, long may it continue.
