I officially hate Michael reed!!!!!!!! He is one of the editors at PCFormat and has messed up my day. He wrote a whole article about the Intel Larrabee GFX card and how good it is. I was so exited I almost screamed, and at the end of the article, APRIL FOOLS!!!!

It all sounded so good, why????

Because it's funny seeing reactions like yours.

:p

twice the speed of the best nvidia for R1000!

whats the deal with larrabee anyway? will it be like a modern day co-processor, or gfx card?

Well both actually, but it is mainly aimed at GFX card. And the concept of the card is plausible but just hasn't been developed yet. So although this specific article was a joke the development of this card is actually taking place at intel.

Damn that was terrible. I practically got arrhythmia when I read that article (first PCF I bought in a year and it tricks me. FU2) and then when I saw the April Fool...I believe I threw the magazine a nice distance (its all hazy really. Probably passed out round about that time).

I feel your pain mate. What makes it worse is that I can promise you, betting everything in my possession, including some of old Anton Rupert's red wine, that the technology exists to produce a graphics card of that power, price it in that manner and still make a profit. Unfortunately, progress for progress' sake must be prohibited. Otherwise everyone would have PCs that could run Crysis on very high DX 10 at 2560x1600 with 16x AA and we would have games with movie-quality graphics and the graphics card companies wouldn't be making billions for their shareholders. What an awful world we live in. <cries>

Good idea using a graphics card as a co-processor. All that raw power just sitting there going to waste while waiting for you to play games.

Imagine how smug PCF will be if their april fools turns into september reality.

I bought PCF for the first time in years, and it was the first article i read.
I thought it was very unprofessional and i was very disappointed with PCF.

Have you checked out CUDA for the GeForce cards?

Very nice and very powerfull.

Ambitious project by Intel, and it just may work. Its not the technical gadgetry that concerns me but the drivers to extract the required performance...
E.g folding with an 8800GT is much faster than it is with a Radeon 4870X2 even though it has upto 2 TFlops of computational power and the 8800GT has lass than 500GFLops. the drivers make all the difference. Driver teams are bigger than R&D teams these days and I must say the guys from NVIDIA in particular are nothign short of incredible. The ATI guys are as equally good so not to say anything about them... Wonder if Intel has those kind of people on board.

Is that a April Fool's joke?

Took me a while to "click", was a couple of days before April. I thought it was well done!

but why would you but it for the first time in years? if you stopped buying it in the first place and have access to the internet I would assume you realised:

1. The SA articles are localised versions of 2 month old PCF UK articles
2. There are better articles about hardware on the net
