Thought I'd vent here how everything seems to happen at once ...

As some of you know, I bought myself a little cluster recently and moved in about 3 months. Buying a property is pretty pricey as there are always some expenses not foreseen ... however I'm going to exclude the transfers, moving, rates, blinds, paint and other expenses in my rant. I was hoping that I'd recover from that whack of expenses in the coming months, but ...

I didn't realise I paid rent in arrears rather than advance at my old place (been there 3.5 years - so couldn't remember if I started the payment at the start/end of the month). So I'm phoned a day after my 1st bond goes off to pay rent AS WELL. R4,500.00 extra and not budgetted for ....

A while later, my tenants lease is up and he decides to move house - and the mangement agent charges a finders fee for the admin, advertising, showing around etc - R9,200.00

The new landlord finds issues she's not happy with - small issues that have built up recently (damp, non-locking doors, cracked plastic etc) - R5,500.00

We also have an old gate which needs to be replaced, as it can't be repaired - R5,500.00

At the new place there is a terror of a cat that fights and kills everything in it's path. He comes into yards and houses and sprays, fights and eats my food. He's responsibile for the cat next door losing it's tail. He comes in 2 weeks ago and fights with my cat - who develops an absess and needs a vet. R600.00. He sprays my computor monitor and pounced my cat yet again SUnday - so I need electric fencing. R6,000.00

So far in just two months, I've had another R30,000.00 dumped on me and while this may not be huge, it comes after I've *just* moved into a property and all the standard 'moving' costs ...

SARS usually hit me with R20,000.00-R30,000.00 towards year end - so still awaiting this final sum too.

Oh well - just wanted to put it out there I'm a little pissed off :)

Shame,

Least you could afford all the extra expenses, would of been alot worse if you couldnt

yeah

I know that feeling.

Our one car started to overheat consistently, and used water. Thinking it was the water pump, I had it overhauled.

The problem still persisted, and got worse. Eventually the culprit was found - a welch plug in the cylinder head.

All of a sudden my other car also started to develop the same symptom. Urgh.

At least we'll be getting the one car back today. Don't know where to with the second.

First car's a Fiat Palio. It was a real bugger getting spares for it.

Second car is a Toyota Corolla. Spares should be plentiful for it. But it's still a bugger.

Yip, they'd have to lock me up :p

Hope its the last of it all Dolby! Congrats on the property purchase regardless.

Happens to all of us, when my S2000's clutch master cylinder went - I said to my SO that at least we still have the reliable Hilux, literally the next day the radiator on the Hilux went on the way home from work :p

What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...

RE: Cat - warn the owner, then catch it and take it to the furthest SPCA. (and don't let it it your food... its unhealthy for animals to eat human food)

In the spirit of the world cup, pretend it's a rugby ball and send it over the fence.

I'm damn scared of buying property for the same reason. I'm scared that I spend a load of cash on the place and whoops, R100k worth of work required or a car gets wrecked, etc. It requires a bit of a leap of faith, I suppose!

These days its a given... Our house looked spotless - I've spent close on R200,000 in just under two years, my bond is still where it was when we bought the place :( Actually...its lower.

People would rather hide the defects than fix them... when you're living in the house you start to find them

Had the same sort of experience.

I'd take that cat to an animal shelter and have them sterilise the thing.

My vet advised me to catch the neighbours cat and drench it with a hosepipe to prevent it coming onto our property and injuring our cats ... I haven't seen it since.

He obviously became a vet because of his love for animals.

I think its quite a humane solution compared to a BB gun or electric fence.

Why does SARS hit you with R20k-30k each year? Don't you pay sufficient PAYE or do you have other sources of income that you declare, but don't pay tax on?

It's Tableview, that used to be swampland once upon a time.

I had a similar cat issue, one treatment with a squash racket and problem solved.

I have the same issue at the moment. It has cost me two trips to the vet and R1,100 - in the last three weeks. And my cat is now **** scared. If I catch that black little tomcat ****er he's toast.

Edit/ sorry about your problems Dolby!

Edit// maybe I can assist by taking your 7D off your hands at an emergency price? :-)

Hosepipe also works

It would have been easier to take the cat out dude.

This.

My Fiance is struggling with a cat that keeps spraying her bedroom where her cat sleeps. We have tried all sorts of methods to get rid of it. Now, that fscking cat has an appointment with a bullet.
