Can anyone explain why Mweb requires proof of income in order to sign up for their adsl service? I don't see the point of doing a credit worthiness check for a service that is paid for in advance.

As far as I am concerned this is a ridiculous and onerous requirement.

I was wondering the same thing, since signing up at Afrihost has no such requirement.

For the market research and profile guys -- amongst others

ONEROUS if you ask me -- is this a DEFINITE requirement ????

MW

According to their application form it is, although I'm not sure if they enforce it. Just seems a ridiculous requirement for a service that is paid for in advance. No other ISP as far as I know requires proof of income to open up an account.

Walk (with) us, through your whole proccess...

Duh!
So they know what products to try and cross sell to you, and what market segment is best suited to buy your personal information.
If you earn < R2K they sell your details on a marketing list to Pep Stores, and more than R60K they sell it to Investec.

Obvious.

Oink!

But what if you work for yourself? Who gives you a payslip then?

Exactly! I work for myself. But even if I didn't I still wouldn't give my payslip to Mweb, it's none of their damn business how much I earn. It's completely irrelevant.

That applies to customers who elect a 3g or other capped product with the option to automatically top up when the cap is reached. Sales says all you are required to send is your ID and a proof of residence (if data only, Telkom account if you go All-Inclusive).
