How much would a gold engagement ring with a pink diamond cost?

According to the Wikipedia article on engagement rings, the practice can be traced back to the 15th century. So the YouTube video that claims De Beers started it may not be entirely accurate.

Personally I'll not wear a wedding ring because I consider it unhygienic.

Pink diamond are you nuts!!! Why don't you make it a heart shaped pink diamond while your at it

Duh :p

I would never get a pink diamond ring though.... Black or green is the only thing I'll accept. Or some form of seashell. And no gold either....

Some form of seashell huh?
Here, I got you one. Now show me how happy you are and wear it for the rest of the day :p

Yes, a gold ring with a light pink diamond. Apparently the pink ones are very rare and quite expensive hence why I ask what kind of ballpark figure one is looking at.

Is 18 karat gold better than 22 or 24 karat gold? I think it is harder hence preferred for jewellery. Is that true?

Yes, 24 and 22 are not recommended for rings. They wear at the bottom. I would even go for 9k for a ring. It makes it durable. Earrings and things can go from 18 up.

The weird thing to me is that people think other people know their gold/diamonds are of a lesser quality. K@k story. The average consumer doesn't know his ******* from his nose when it comes to metals and stones.

The durability vs karat rating being higher and softer only holds true for yellow gold, its the opposite for white gold.

Yes, if they use platinum or radium as an alloy. And to get the "silver look" you want they plate it with radium. They also use s'il ever and silver is also soft.

Gold is gold, what you use as an alloy change the color.

You never get your money back when you buy jewelry. You pay for the time and craft that went into the piece. You only get the money back for the materials used. ( unless you are talking insurance) but if you divorce and go to get money for the ring you do not get the money you paid for the piece.

Unfortunately I'm a real girl in this regard... I would love to get a diamond engagement ring. But by no means do I expect a guy to pay 2 months salary for a ring - that is a ****load of money. I don't care about the monetary value of the ring, rather the time and effort going into choosing a ring

So if the guy is unemployed and buys you a R1000 ($100) ring will you be happy if he took his time and effort to choose the ring?

If he is unemployed then it wouldn't make sense for him to buy me any ring. I'm not illogical about this.

I'm purely talking about the situation I am in now. My SO does have a very good job with very good pay, so I'd expect him to at least give me a semi-decent ring. But if he gives me a R1000 ring because he likes it, and genuinely thinks that it suits me, then I will be happy.

It is correct, but it depends how anal you are in this regard, ps don't go for 24 karat, its far to soft and damages easily. Ball park firgure depends on supply and demand plus cut of diamond (heart shape is very expensive as the shape needs to be "inside" the actual rock) plus diamond's colour (clarity not just the pink colour) and then also impurities and then finally the physical size. So ball park figure is relative
