Why is Africa a Failure?

Exactly. With these new advancement, there is more crime, wars, diseases, global warming, stresses, and all that ****. All these in the name of advancement.

Crime and diseases are not the result of advancement
Wars are to some extent but not completely.
Global warming is the cost we pay I agree, but wouldn't you like owning your cellphone, cars or even ease of you being able to take a simple shower? It's the price we pay
Stresses? There was always stresses...

And are you saying that if human beings were just to sit still, not ponder about their existince, their thirst for knowledge of all things and to better their lives all would be well? no my friend

We have to adapt and change to survive

Well disease would be one. Being attacked and having your arm bitten off by a wild animal would be another.. You would not live through that, even though it is JUST an arm..

If you want the ultimate example, in 1000 years from now, when an asteroid heads to Earth, either we will have progressed enough to survive, or we wont.

Progression is not JUST about survival though. Like I said it is supposedly going to answer some questions for us eventually.. It has already answered plenty. It also has to do with comfort and many other things. People like toilets, people like to have showers and be in a clean living space, people like to eat different foods everyday as opposed to the same thing all the time, people like to be able to travel anywhere in the world quickly and get in touch with people they would never have had a chance to meet if we all lived off nature in 50 person societies. There are many ways that progression has helped us. I think people can only appreciate those things when they are taken away.

Everything that you refer to relates to the New World, New World thinking, enlightenment etc., of which Africa was not entirely exposed to until colonialist times.

We, and Europeans, have been exposed to the New World for much longer.

Technology which you now use to "Debunk" our POV's. Maybe we should try some smoke signals, You think we can arrange something? I would love to stream a National Geographic history film on why Africa is failing with the smoke signal technology. Would be fun.

You misunderstand me.

It was only as the New World came to Africa, namely through colonialism, that the sort of advancement related to the New World began to apply to Africa. Before the New World's arrival in Africa, Africans knew no different. They were perfectly happy with the simple life.

I agree with your post. But let me rephrase what you quoted of me.

It was only as the New World came to Africa, namely through colonialism, that the sort of advancement related to the New World began to apply to Africa. Before the New World's arrival in Africa, Africans knew no different. They were perfectly happy with the simple life.

At this point in time, of course I wouldn't want to be wearing loin cloths and hunting my own food. But if I was living in Africa, pre-colonialist and New World time, I would have been quite content being ignorant in my loin cloth hunting animals. :)

OK, I see your point but dont quit agree with the way Africa has dealt with it on a whole. I dont agree with colonialism, especially the way it happened in Africa. However it did happen and there is nothing we can do about THAT. And blaming it for Africa's lack of development is bull.

Colonialism doesnt exist anymore and African countries have CHOSEN to either go the democratic route or remain dictatorships (which are shyte regardless and should be abolished). Those who have adopted democratic routes have numerous countries to learn from, those being the western (modern) world. Yet they choose a kind of hybrid democractic tribalism, an oxymoron of note!

Africans try to learn western values from Africans - there's your problem! Accept that you can learn from outside of your race, religion, tribe etc and you can start developing. Its pointless trying to change without embracing that change! And its pointess trying to change by placing imbeciles and criminals in a position of power.

The question remains, "Is Africa capable of producing a decent politican?"

@boramk, I have a question for you, why did you choose "Why is Africa a Failure?" as the thread title, as opposed to something like 'Is Africa a failure and if so then why?' ?
If he chose the 2nd title I'm sure people would be willing to put money on the fact that NOBODY on these forums would really consider Africa as a "successful" continent.

@boramk, I have a question for you, why did you choose "Why is Africa a Failure?" as the thread title, as opposed to something like 'Is Africa a failure and if so then why?' ?

lol I was going through a lot of youtube video's and articles as this intrested me

And that was the question I wanted to ask the question and wanted specifivally to ask and wanted people's opinions

but if you want me to change the title i will:o

Crime and diseases are not the result of advancement
U get mugged/killed for ur cell phone. U get all these diseases because of the processed foods we eat, all the chemicals invented to advance life.

Wars are to some extent but not completely.
It all boils down to money/oil.

I think ur sig is the reason for all these advancements :D

As South Africa is a part of Africa and this topic is about the failure of Africa in as a whole and in general; it is perfectly acceptable to use examples from ANY African country, including South Africa. South Africa is unique in that it went from Colonial rule, to white minority rule and finally now to black majority rule.

Crying foul (aka derailment) every time South Africa is mentioned is counter productive and not in keeping with the general vein of this thread. If South Africa is exempt because of it's uniqueness as you claim, every single African country could be made exempt as a valid example for the "failings" of Africa (each country has its own unique features and factors which could exclude it), thereby rendering this entire debate moot.

I am "crying foul" when South Africa and its problems (relating to AA/BEE, ANC, Eskom etc.) are mentioned when these specific problems already fall under the general consensus of reasons as to why Africa is/has failing/failed i.e. Corrupt governments, failed central planning, geopolitics, human rights violations, despotism, illiteracy, superstition, tribal savagery, military conflict, poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, bad water supply and sanitation and poor health services.

However you cannot blame the whole of Africa's woes on BEE/AA, the ANC or Eskom. BEE/AA and certainly Eskom are unique to South Africa and have no place in this discussion. ANC is a fair target to a degree but only as an example of poor government so prevalent in Africa.

Yip.

U get mugged/killed for ur cell phone. U get all these diseases because of the processed foods we eat, all the chemicals invented to advance life.

What processed foods and chemicals cause diseases??
Slight derail sorry, but I dont understand this arguement.

Global warming is the cost we pay I agree, but wouldn't you like owning your cellphone, cars or even ease of you being able to take a simple shower?

The point is that Africa was only introduced to this way of thinking, mainly through colonialism, at a much later stage than Europeans were introduced to it.

U get mugged/killed for ur cell phone.

people got killed anyways

U get all these diseases because of the processed foods we eat, all the chemicals invented to advance life.

we don have the time to grow/cook with our population thats in a hurry
the only disease you would get from food is bad cholestral unless you eat something dodge:p

it all boils down to oil/money
was every single war in history based on oil and money?

I think ur sig is the reason for all these advancements :D

lol

One health expert said 60% (I forgot who it was) of the diseases are caused by the modern foods we eat.

OK, I see your point but dont quit agree with the way Africa has dealt with it on a whole.

Nor do I. :)

I dont agree with colonialism, especially the way it happened in Africa. However it did happen and there is nothing we can do about THAT. And blaming it for Africa's lack of development is bull.

It is a big contributing factor.

Africans try to learn western values from Africans - there's your problem! Accept that you can learn from outside of your race, religion, tribe etc and you can start developing. Its pointless trying to change without embracing that change! And its pointess trying to change by placing imbeciles and criminals in a position of power.

Agreed.

The question remains, "Is Africa capable of producing a decent politican?"

Yes - Helen Zille and Tony Leon. :p

Just jokes.

Yes Africans are capable of being decent politicians, provided they learn from outside their race, religion, tribe etc.

If its a contributing factor, I'll say again, why is Hong Kong, Singapore etc. doing so well?

I have one prob with SA ( seeing its part of Africa )...A normal person will

replace something "not so good" with something "better"...Here its just the

opposite...Change something "good" for something "worse"...Im talking skills here now. Skills = growth ( ie private sector );

Growth = money; Money = Infrastructure; Infrastructure = attraction; Attraction = tourists; Tourists = money, money buys

more skills and we start getting the loop to success.
