Why is Africa a Failure?

Increased snowfall in Greece, but decreased snowfall somewhere else - could this not mean that the opposite of an "ice age" is coming?

How are you so sure of this? If in your opinion climatic conditions will kill off many people in e.g. 1000 years, then how do you know that said peoples' countries will not be developed in e.g. 1000 years?

Humans will cease to exist.

Some plants will survive.

Humans developed to such an extent, that they are killing themselves.
Climatic changes are happening faster and faster.
It is like a snowball.

We are already past the point of no return.
Natural selection will not be able to compensate in time.

Nature will not allow us to survive.
We are too destructive.

We are the cause of the demise of humans.
We deserve to be killed off by nature.

1000 Years

It will not take that long. The climate change started
long ago, only now it is getting discussed, it will also
not wipe out humanity. But for sure many will die in
the process.

I never said it will take 1000 years. I used 1000 years purely as an example. Please address my questions.

You miss the point. Arko2 was not referring to the demise of the entire human race. Please read his post again, as well as mine.

Okay seriously be back later. :)

I am talking in the long term.
You guys are talking in the short to medium term.

1000 Years

Just look at countries development over the last 1000
Years . You can imagine how they will then change
over the next 1000 Years. I once read in a Europe news
We are Feeding Africa to death.

I do not think that we will be here in another 1000 years.

The Mayan calendar stopped in 2012.

HMMMM..I likes that brown sugar ....hmmmmm

On the otherhand ZIM2.0, ZIMO and the 2010 ZIMO DOLLA UWASIMASHINI eishh me not likes THAT SHIZZNEZZ

Feeding

Meaning the UN Food agencies, look at the TV
Big bags with mostly USA stamped on it. Even
offloading in Zim. But Bob mentioned a record
year 2008 for Food Production
Why Farm if the World is feeding you.
Just multiply and the World will collect money
for the Hungry kids of the World

i agree with postmanpots statement about africa's exposure to "western ideals". the world is being run by democratic capitalists with a few exceptions. africa is still very young in terms the worlds current mode of economics and politics. so you should technically blame the west, its always their fault.

some of the statements on this form are borderline racist.

Sorry butt there is nothing 'borderline' about my racism I will have you know.:D

The biggest reason is tribalist culture IMO. Even those Africans who are not tribal to the point of adhering to a specific chief have tribal tendencies in their political affiliation.

It all boils down to a cultural flaw that is prevelant across the continent.

When you speak to youths (and I have done a little test of my own) in other African countries most have have strong political aspirations. This may fade over time, but all that passion ends up in sticky voting practice where what the parties they support have to offer have very little to do with why they vote for them.

When the politics melt down, so does the country.

The IQ test was designed for Westernised people who had been exposed to their own ways for hundreds of yours.

Africans have only been exposed to the Westernised way for +-100 years, it is unfair to expect the majority of Africa to match the average IQ of Europeans and European settlers etc. in such little time.

Then by your logic, people from countries/nations not exposed to the "western way" should have a lower IQ Eh? so explain to me why those asians have the highest IQ scores

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence

I was watching a Mexican senate session on YouTube. One of the speakers asked during a heated debate why Mexico wasn't progressing and why their country is still in such a disatrous state to which a senator replied...
"Because we're Mexicans" :D

What i meant was that you cannot generalize and say that all black people are stupid, there are some clever ones out there as well.

People with high IQ do not rule in a democracy.

Stupid people do.

I question democracy as a method of governance.

You are right and you are wrong IMO. Generalizations are reality. The exceptions to the general rule prove this, simply by being exceptions, Do you get this? So to be realistic you can and must generalize to be factual.
You are right though to question the logic in democracy, for it does suggest that (in fact insists upon) the ignorant masses being in control. How sensible is that?

I agree that culture is very much the reason. But I believe that there is a more subtle issue. The Western culture tend to have a long term focus (ito planning, vision, investment, rewards etc) and seems to take personal responsibility quite serious. The African culture seem to be more short term focused resulting in the typical problems that prevails in most African countries and at the same time ignore the issue of personal responsibility.

No, that cannot explain any more than a tiny percentage of the problems, and in fact, is more than counterbalanced by the massive tsunami of new technologies and ideas that Europeans brought to Africa - Africa should be wealthier than ever before. African countries that have long been decolonised remain mired in poverty, while countries like South Korea that 40 years ago were at the same "starting point" as some African countries e.g. Nigeria completely reinvented and modernised itself. Could you elaborate on what exactly those so-called "exploitations" are, or do you prefer vague allusions? The only real exploitations are market-distorting farm subsidies and so-called "aid" that destroys markets.

I'm not so sure about South Korea. Basically South Korea while a colony of
the Japanese before was once an independent country with a form
of advanced culture, pretty much like most of Asia and at least as
old or probably even older than much of Europe (excluding Greece, Rome etc).

Secondly South Korea received a lot of aid from the West (like West Germany) to protect it from going Communist.

However the Koreans pulled themselves up by their bootstraps (for all
computer geeks) and have achieved a lot in becoming one of the leading economic powerhouses in the world.

much like Africa of today?

S. Korea at least used all that for education and infrastructure development....

here, they use it to fatten their pockets:mad: thats one of the problems

True. All these big business people are the ones running the show.
fortunate enough for those countries, these business people live in those countries - so they have their countries best interests at heart.
If we had some of these people (the AngloAmericans, De Beers, etc) as Africans, then we would have a different Africa.

They take our raw mineral for less money and sell them back to us for billions of dollars. I remember when Jan Van Riebeck came to SA and gave our fore fathers mirror in exchange for Cattle - That was doff :D

I guess they went like "Look, I can see myself, or is it my brother? This is brilliant".

What you mention happens everywhere. A private enterprise with enough resources to be able to mine the territory does all the work and the government gets a cut of the takings. Believe me it would be much worse
if this (OR ANY OTHER) government tried to do this for itself - look at all these controlled Communist economies. The government would do this so inefficiently the payback from being the sole mining concern would be less
than the cut they get now.

Re: Mirror in exchange for cattle, you got a valuable instrument in exchange for some meat. An instrument which could be used to self-groom for instance or for instrospection. Now a ruler could take more responsibility
over his appearance and maybe this leads to more responsible government
if NOT it at least stimulates SCIENTIFIC thinking. The locals could have asked V Riebeeck for a recipe for making more mirrors and started a lucrative trade in glassware and mirrors.

Contact with distant more advanced cultures is actually good. It stimulates scientific thinking. They could have also asked to be taught mathematics, etc - secrets of ship design, secrets of gunpowder and so on.

Believe me, knowledge for MEAT is a great bargain.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that for the size of South Korea, the amount of aid given was probably way more than what was given to
Africa. I get your points about Korea being an advanced society -
at least on par with average Westerners but still there was a big
inflow of cash they received. Then again they did suffer WW2 and Japanese
occupation (which added a lot of infrastructure and technology transfer itself as the Japanese invested in Korea and build telephone/telegraph/railway and road networks) and they did have that Korean War which cost a lot of lives and
resources.
