Why is Africa a Failure?

To put it into a hypothetical situation... if a number of forum members were paralyzed from the waste down they would rather be miserable about what they've lost rather than make the most of what they have at the present.

i agree with postmanpots statement about africa's exposure to "western ideals". the world is being run by democratic capitalists with a few exceptions. africa is still very young in terms the worlds current mode of economics and politics. so you should technically blame the west, its always their fault.

some of the statements on this form are borderline racist.

IMHO i think that it is a culture clash.
The Western and the African cultures do not gel.
Rightly or wrongly, we do not think the same.
The western culture worries and plans for tomorrow,the African culture lives only for today.Tomorrow does not exist.

The western culture does not harp on the past in the same way as the african culture does.

As an example we can use the Escom fiasco as a case in point:
The former "Advantaged" Escom employees knew that in order to be able to generate enough electricity you have to build new powerstations and keep a reasonable capacity in reserve.

When affirmative action was implemented at Escom,and the ANC government took over,some employees (to their credit) told decisionmakers that we will run out of generating capacity in future.

As the lights were burning at that stage,this was not seen as a problem or as a potential problem.
The new government then continued taxing the electricity grid, by adding more and more consumers,until the lights did go out.

Now for the first time (to the African mind) do we have a problem.

As a former homebuilder i used to often see this.
My empolyees (formerly disadvantaged) would tell me only when the cement is finished.
While there is one bag remaining in the storeroom they keep quiet.
They would only inform you when there is nothing left.

Planning for the future does not take prioroty in the African mind,simply because the future does not exist.
What does exist, is the present and the past.

That my friend, is the reason that Africa will not prosper and attain it's rightfull place in the world.

I think they have a "thinking" problem...MUST be, because their "logic" just aint logic.
 
Know a person that works at Portnet/Transnet and this is exactly the problem he encountered .. Booking container space two years in advance just doesn't compute. :)

The whole post was generalizing that all Africans can't do this, can't do that. So as an African, I was included in that. So r u still an African?
 
Africans can do a lot of things,and do them well.
I would be the first to acknowlede that.

Unfortunately planning is not one of the things they do well.
This is not unsurmountable though.

Recognising the fact that this is lacking in their makeup,and rectifying it,would go a long way towards utilising Africa's full potential.
 
Only think about today

Forget tomorrow, It is not only in Africa, but I think
it is all over the World in the southern Hemis. The one
good example is Italy, the north is very rich while the
South is poor and the originator of the Mafia. Now
the main reason I think is that it is the Climate.
If, in the North, you don't think about a few months ahead
you will die in Winter, so food , animals fireplaces housing
need to be ready in advance otherwise you die. It is
simple forget about the future no plan you will die. But in
the south the climate does not force you to plan for the future. Look at all southern countries and you'll see.
Finnland and the the countries surrounding it have the
lowest corruption. IMO that is the very big difference in the mentality and attitude and will never really change.

True, unfortunately.

Problem is whites have no say in government.

They are disempowered.

They are not happy.

How long are they going to accept this sad state of affairs?

I know that you will probably reply that this was exactly the same scenario before.(with apartheid)

We all know what happened before. Riots and public disobedience.

Are we going to go down that road again?

Do not tell me that there is predominantly white political parties represented in government.

They mean less than nothing.
Its like going into a boxing ring to fight an opponent with both hands tied to your back.
