Why is Africa a Failure?

That's okay. It's difficult to not set the record straight after someone's initial derailing (referring to the original bringing up of the ANC, AA/BEE and Eskom).

Hypocritical its always an issue if some members raise it and OK in your eyes if in particular a specific few member do it. Eish!

Is it really worth derailing this thread so you can comment on PP's post directed at another forumite? Just PM him

No! but I did what he does all along. I give you my humblest apologies.

Back to topic. These last few posts really highlighted execcelent reasons of why Africa are failing and by the looks of it, Why South Africa are to follow destiny. What can be done to overcome and prevent it? It seems obvious or is it all just but a lost case.

I think it will be refreshing to read comments on what to do to fix the failing of Africa.

Any comments?

Highflyer_GP did not raise it. He merely replied and set the record straight, as expected. Yes it contributes to derailing, for which he apologised.

Sort out African politics.

I agree, but how?
It's easy to make a statement that we should sort out African politics, but it raises some questions.

Firstly, this implies that something is wrong with African politics.
Has it occured to you that Africans might like the way politics are in Africa?

If indeed something is wrong with African politics, what is wrong and how can it be fixed?

Any suggestions?

Are you serious? I agree we must try and find a solution, but who is going to listen. How can Africans like the way politics is in Africa when the rest of the world is leaving Africa behind. Look at how China and India are performing economically. Countries in Africa that have oil are no better off. The poeple of Africa need to change their mind set, get off their arsses and do something about it and not leave it to a select few.

I created a thread about this a few weeks back but not too many people were able to come up with solutions. Everyone is very keen to criticize, not many are able to suggest solutions. I used SA as an example. Here is the thread.

They must like the way politics are in Africa.
I do not see the alternative thinkers running the country.
The africans are running it.
If they did not like what the government is doing, they would be voted out in a flash.
This is a democracy, you vote for whomever you please.
If the people did not like the ruling party, they would vote for some other party.
The same goes for Zimbabwe.
People there actually like Robert Mugabe.(and they vote for him)

The problem with African politics, is that it is based on democracy (sometimes), but run as a tribe. Everyone not part of the tribe gets excluded and marginalized. Africans must decide if they want to use democracy or not, because it seems that are only playing the democracy game to get money out of the west.

TB's idea of Africans doing self policing, is a good one, but failed with its first test, i.e. Zimbabwe. Mugabe destroyed everything western in his country, in order to start "fresh", and he did a good job. Unfortunately, Africa does not have a good record of recovering after this type of "cleansing". Africa should learn that not everything left over from colonialism is bad, and that building onto what you have been left/given will only help. If you want to change everything, that's fine, but make sure you are able to put a working system in place before pulling the plug on the old one.

Africa will always fail, because it fails to realize that they are not depended on the west. Leaders must stop planning for their own future, and start to plan for their countries future. Work with other African countries, not against. How many African countries export (food and other necessities) to other African countries? None I know of (SA export electricity though). Politicians in Africa should stop fighting with each other for handouts, and start to work together.

Now that is fine, does not make it OK tho but I understand his reasoning. I never see you apologize for the derailments you make. So lets quit this TIT for TAT and get back on topic. How about answering some of the direct question lodged to You? Mmmm?

Re above. It is well known that Zim was the breadbasket for the Sub Saharan Africa, from there it made a U-Turn to what we see today. As stated by others "from Bread basket to Basket case".

That was my point. If Zimbabwe for example have simply expanded or kept the production of food as they had been doing, they could have been well off by selling food to the UN and other African nations that need it. Tobacco is declining slightly, but they could have still received a decent income from that, while thinking of moving to over to some other produce to fill the gap.

If you want to do some digging in threads I've participated in (and supposedly derailed) since antowan's "Stop the name-calling" thread, you're welcome to PM the evidence.

I have had no sleep, I will reply when/if I want to.

Re tobacco. nice niche market is the friendly/green "poison" industry. Keeps insects away from crop.

If the ANC stuck with Mandellas plans skilled people will by now have flocked back to SA and not the other way round. Now all and the only migration we see is from the North. That will create the conditions for another Africa failure as we see.
