Why is Africa a Failure?

TB's idea of Africans doing self policing, is a good one, but failed with its first test, i.e. Zimbabwe. Mugabe destroyed everything western in his country, in order to start "fresh", and he did a good job. Unfortunately, Africa does not have a good record of recovering after this type of "cleansing". Africa should learn that not everything left over from colonialism is bad, and that building onto what you have been left/given will only help. If you want to change everything, that's fine, but make sure you are able to put a working system in place before pulling the plug on the old one.

Africa will always fail, because it fails to realize that they are not depended on the west. Leaders must stop planning for their own future, and start to plan for their countries future. Work with other African countries, not against. How many African countries export (food and other necessities) to other African countries? None I know of (SA export electricity though). Politicians in Africa should stop fighting with each other for handouts, and start to work together.

It's a very complex issue and as Debbie2 pointed out, one that we probably will never resolve.

Lets stop being negative about Africa and do what needs to be done to save it.

We are all on this sinking ship together.

I think we shoud start bailing,and not just talk about bailing.

That's trade internationally. I was trying to say that trade internal to Africa is almost non-existent, and if it does happen, nobody is trying to advertise.

The produce being exported according to your link is mainly:
cut flowers, frozen fish, t-shirts, women's trousers, footwear and transistors

These produce is in stiff competition with other countries with more efficient and possibly cheaper labour (China).

Also the article was written in 2000. Would like to see an update on those stats, as it would be interesting to see how it performing now.
 
Africa is such a mess because of a low level of education. Ignorant people elect bad leaders and the leaders are willing to let people die just so they can have an extra R1000 in their pockets..

Erm.. Most of the world was plundered by Europeans, but the rest of the world is developing. African tribes were also at war with eachother for control, apparently its only unfair competition when you are white and have gun powder. Not our problem they never progressed like us. Survival of the fittest, if nature had it her way, the Europeans would be the only humans on the planet.

African people AREN'T as intelligent. Its called education, it helps..

So, what? We all know they did. We all realise they did. WE HAVE ACCEPTED THAT IT HAPPENED!

But how is Africa ever going to recover if they sit with their hands out begging for scraps from Europe's table? You (I refer to a group reference, no personal attack) can go around in circles complaining about Colonialism this and Apartheid that for all I care. You're slowly killing yourself and I no longer give a damn because until you change your mental attitude you are going to cause your own suffering until the end of days.

One of the bloodiest wars of independence was fought by a former British colony against Britain. They gained there independence and promptly turned around for trade agreements from the U.K. They have prospered for the past 250 years as a result of not playing the "blame game" and have become the most wealthy nation in the world. Yes, indeed, the U.S.A.

And the Chinese, lets not forget them. Can't outbreed them and they gave Europeans the gunpowder stuff - so I'm pretty sure they have it as well. :D

The biggest single mistake the apartheid government made was the introduction of bantu education.

If we did not have bantu education South Africa would have been a global power by now.

To a westener the African traditional way of life may feel wrong.
To the African the western way feels wrong.

Who is correct?

Can we change their way of thinking?
Can they change ours?

Facts are that there are more of them,than there is of us.
This is a democracy.
They are in charge.
Either we adapt or we leave.
There is no other choice.

True.
If we educated them properly from the beginning, they would have had the power of logical thinking by now,and we wouldn't have the problem of them voting for a party that is ruining the country.

They would have had the power of distinction between right and wrong.

I doubt if we could teach them how to THINK!..Thats a bit impossable as you are born with the way you think, and also i think IQ plays a major roll icw you "thinking" ways
