Why is Vodacoms network so sucky?

I have only ever experianced the vodacom network to be down once!! Ever!! You sure its not your phone?

Its down at least 20% of the time...

pathetic

Won't you PM me the availability reports you ran showing the 80% availability, please? As well as your testing methodology?

I'll immediately action it, as typical network uptime is more than 99.7%.

In your tests where did you find the problem is? On the terminal side, the radio links, back-haul, services?

Personally, I find the e-mail side sucky - like so bad today that I got fed up with the 10,000th "could not find pop3.vodamail" error that I switched to gmail as my primary address, sent a mail to that effect to everyone in my address book, and will be cancelling my vodamail address at the end of the month. Why can't a successful, profitable company invest a bit in their infrastructure to make their e-mail service reliable, fast and user-friendly?

I must agree about the voice side of things. I can never make a call without getting cut off..the best is you are on a call and then it says "network busy" and cuts you off from a voice call. Vodacom is over subscribed.

Vodacom is generally awesome, although I am having some trouble with 3G in Illovo, Sandton this evening. Keeps disconnecting, stops sending and receiving data randomly, etc.

Great overall though.

I live in Oude Westhof, Bellville. Reliability of Vodacom network is CRAP. Certainly not better then 70 to 80% - use it mostly in the evening and an evening wihtout issues/disconnects is a rarity. Off last night, off this morning - sometimes it disconnects while browsing or while sending email.

And no - it is not my hardware - sometimes it works perfectly and I don't fiddle with stuff that works - I have even posted here about how great it is :-(. I have PM'd vodacom3g with no luck. I have called Vodacom support and lodged a complaint with no luck.

Only reason I don't do MTN is that my datacard is not unlocked - guess I have to get it unlocked and try another option - was hoping that Vodacom will sort out issues, but does not seem like this is going to happen. Otherwise I am going to have to get an ADSL line.

Regards
Pagel

I see I asked you in April for all your details but I don't seem to have that PM. Just went through all my PM's for April and there nothing there from you.

At that point I asked the local radio guys to look at your problem and they needed an address to go out.

Well today Vryheid KZN 03/06/2008 3G & 2G service was out for 8 hours. Connects but no data transfer and DNS lookup failed.

V3G i sent u a pm with questions and info.

Now after surfing for a few hours, every third or so page i have to hit the refresh button to load the page.

Weather is *** tonight so i expect it. Will test tomorrow.

That, sir is a LIE!!!!

Come to the south of JHB, especially places like Robertsham, and please explain to me why the signal is bad, the signal disappears completely i.e. "NO NETWORK COVERAGE" displayed on phone, dropped calls, crossed calls. late delivery/non-delivery of SMS and this has been like this since I started working in this area. And please don't dare try and tell me it's my phone because you guys gave me a new one and it is STILL DOING THE SAME THING!

Why would I lie to you?

Do you understand the physics around radio transmissions? I see your sig says you're an engineer but do you understand about RF propagation?

Furthermore do you understand statistical distribution?

If not, let's talk about it.
