Your system description is accurate, but unfortunately sea water doesn't flow though heat exchangers by itself, you need pumps. Pumps have moving parts, so whatever is in the seawater goes through the pumps. Or you put in filters which then get clogged and the flow stops, which is apparently what happened this time.

These filters shouldn't clog that easily unless they suck onto a whale or something. And this is what maintenance is for, to catch any clogs or broken filters, but we know Eskom doesn't carry that out any more.

Deciding to 'protect Eskom from PPP's meant they accepted the higher risk with limited capacity
The 'aging fleet' theory does not explain where the total bailouts since 2008 were spent.
So many questions, including: were the seven countries receiving low cost power also affected by load-shedding ?
Why do we even export electricity ? What about 'South Africa first' etc
Can't wait to Hear what Ted Blom knows about jellyfish . . .
. . in the end, small companies cannot be expected to just absorb so many lost lost hours per day . . . .and still just keep on paying and paying. It all gets quite depressing.

Do these guys wait for a problem to first happen? Why do they not do maintenance work to prevent the problems such as these occurring. It is said the company is over-staffed.... a case of too many chiefs!
