Why MWEB, why....

I got my first warning letter from mweb for downloading 280gb+ on 2mb.

I cancelled mweb and joined openweb. :D

Received the email as well. Been a loyal customer since they launched the Free the Web initiative in 2010. Canceling tonight.

Any suggestions for a new ISP? We've been looking at upgrading from 1Mbps to 4Mbps. What was nice about MWeb was that they prioritised gaming traffic...will anyone else offer a sound gaming experience during the day/eve and not punish us for downloading at night/while we're at work?

ABZO/Rickster, I'm not saying anyone was first or at fault. All I'm saying is merge the 2 as they are about the same thing.

I commented about the same problem at 2:09 on the M-Web uncapped thread. I was probably still typing it when Rickster posted his thread.

If my dad gets this message on this business line, its a global message trying to make you stop downloading.

He doesnt download anything, just emails and web browsing.

UPDATE from mweb

These mailers were only sent out today to a very small group of customers, making up less than 3% of our subscribers. The list was compiled based on average usage patterns over the last few months with the intention of making sure that customers likely to be impacted by the change in the manner in which we are enforcing the policy have time to adjust their behavior before the system kicks in from the 1st of September.

Could the people that got mails please post their line speed and usage for July?

Why not include people that haven't recieved any warning letters as a yardstick, here is my July usage, 4mpbs uncapped premium

Up Down Total
July, 2013 12230.05 353740.66 365930.71

The question is why are you even using mweb in the first place ?

I've tried moving to cheaper providers twice, been burnt twice.

Please dont say Afrihost.....

Also If I had to leave MWEB what would happen to my Email address, I cant just get a new one....

One of them was Afrihost, they had just dropped prices and were having big issues with their MTN lines (IIRC) I'm sure you can keep the e-mail address. MWeb don't delete your info for like 6 months, not sure if this is standard practice but it makes going back a lot easier :D

If you have to keep your email downgrade to the capped 1GB package for R29.00
