I have no clue and this has been discussed sooooo many times in so many threads, post etc. but somehow some ppl want to build their ultimate PC without an SSD ??

Many will argue SSD is too expensive, well open your eyes, it's not. You get mindblowing performance.

I had a lappie that was just about reaching the 5 year mark, luckily SATA... so I tossed the old drive and slotted in an SSD ... and well this machine is flying again and will last another 5 years !!

So advice to all is get a SDD before you consider an expensive CPU.

** disclaimer SSD may not last as long as normal HDD's (i had one die on me already)

Even when they were expensive it was still worth it.

Some people who have never used it don't know the power :D.

Used one, for my requirements did not observe anything mind-blowing other than the improvement in boot-up time. I use my station for word processing, email and movies, nothing requiring sophisticated hardware.

I think the HHD vs SSD debacle, bothers into the difference between Yaris and BMW 5 Series, both get you from point A to B, but the other will do it faster and more efficient.

Why not? Simple: space, when it comes to hard drives, is more important to me than performance.

My Steam folder alone takes up 500GB and grows every month. I'm not forking out R10K for two 240GB drives.

I havn't gotten one yet - but with regard to storage, you can have a regular HDD for storage - the SSD is for your OS and apps. I particularly want one for all my design related apps..

I hate my SSD.

I now have to learn all my games tips n tricks my self because the load screen flashes up so fast I don't have time to read it. :D

It's not affordable... R/GB ratio is way to pathetic right now... R2k for 128GB? That's not going to be at all usefull for me as a gamer...

How much was your cpu? and your mobo looks like it was 4k or so but a speed boost so great it is the best upgrade is too expensive.

I am always amazed that people can drop 3k on cpu's 3-6k on mobo's but 2k for something that will make such a difference is well ummm errm expensive :D.

I don't mean to be rude dude but as a gamer right, how do you get by on a 9600gt?

No one is going to put every game on their SSD, that is not how its meant to be used, you put your OS on the SSD and any games you play regularly... like WoW.. or in my case BF3 and MW3...

It is definitely the last thing you should buy though, but if you already have a quad core, 1080p screen and a DX11 GPU then its the best performance increase/rand upgrade.

A 120GB SSD can fit only few games and applications on it, seeing that the games easily take up 10GB+ and Windows 7 alone about 30GB. My 120GB SSD is perfect for my gaming PC, seeing that I remove most of the old games that I don't play any more.
Currently I have the following installed: BF3, BF:BC2, CoD4, CoD:BO, TF2, L4D, CS1.6 & War3

If you want to maximize your performance and lifespan of your SSD, I would suggest that you get 8-16GB of RAM so that you can have all you temporary files in a RAM drive.

Quoted for absolute truth.

I am planning to keep my i5 750 for a little while longer, maybe wait for ivy bridge or haswell, and then getting myself a nice P55 mobo with Sata3 and USB3 and 8GB's of proper RAM, and then go SSD shopping.

I'm not so sure what to expect as far as FPS goes, but I am looking forward to a very responsive system.

Agreed, even the 500gb drive that's currently in my laptop is too small for comfort.

Yeah I never understand why people think they need an R8000 graphics card to play at 1080p, but wont spend R2k on an SSD. I'm very happy with my SSD, it makes everything ridiculously fast. I have a 240GB, so its enough for Windows, Steam, and a few games. Movies, series, music and the rest of my games are on my 2TB drive.

The solution is get a motherboard thatcan take more than one hard drive. Your OS and important apps go on the SSD while everything else goes on the platters.

Anyone who thinks they will store their movies, pictures etc on the ssd need their heads read :D. It's main goal is to run the most used stuff then the rest stored on a much bigger drive. Also i hate storing all my crap on the same driver as windows, makes reloadiing a complete nightmare.

So i am seeing a few people with 500gb+ windows drives .

The R2.5k I dropped on my 120GB Vortex 3 is possibly the best money I've ever spent on an upgrade. SSD is the most effective method of bringing performance to an aging system.

Thing is I am also a nerd, so I can likes to be an early adopter wherever possible :)

Believe it or not you don't just have to be a nerd for that. These days the whole computer nerd thing is gone but yea i adobted ssd early and it was insane. As sandman says the ssd is the best upgrade i have ever spent 4.5k on. my pc went from decentish to an absolute beast.

I would take my q9550 computer with ssd over a sandy bridge with a normal slow ass drive anyday. Although i would rather have my i7 with ssd but ya having both is lekka, now i just gotta wait for sandy bridge so i can get me a sata 3 ssd.

I have Black Ops & MW3 on my SSD (obviously my windows too). I love it. A complete shutdown & Reboot in under a minute.
