Waiting for my PC components to arrive (See signature) I could either spend £125 on a 120GB SSD, or half the price for a 500GB HDD. After looking at my external that survived the trip, still having over 500GB available for storage. And the fact that I can simply buy a 1TB HDD next month, it was a no brainer for me.
Having a super duper CPU and GPU, with like 8GB RAM, that can process data at rates that would make your head spin, mean little if the HDD needs to take 3 seconds to position the read head correctly.
The way I see an SSD, is like having an extra 120GB of RAM that my computer uses to have information ready to go, ASAP. Considering the price, SSD's cost is right in the middle of the cost per GB of RAM and HDD. So it all makes perfect sense to me to spend that extra money.
