Why oh Why ?

No.
He was turning left INTO the road in front of me, from the side road at the intersection.
Can only assume that they claimed he was well through the intersection when I hit him, or something.

Maybe "they" decided you were going too fast for the road conditions?

Unless it went to court, the decision to allocate blame to one or other party often has more to do with convenience and pragmatics than actual blame.

Nah it didn't go to court. I assume this is what the two insurance companies negotiated with each other.

I hate traveling on the roads more and more every day. No matter how hard your try to get to your destination in one piece, you are always seconds away from being taken out by some other idiot that is speeding, passing on a blind corner or focused on their cellphone. I'm always focused on as many cars around me as possible trying to predict what they are going to do next. Very tiring :(

I hear you!! :)

That is the one aspect of my retirement that I am looking forward to!

I am so tired of the hell run into Durban every morning, and it seems to be getting worse daily!!

Lets be realistic here, how is 2 seconds a measurement of distance?

It is, provided you know what speed you are doing - you can measure it down to the last mm if you know the speed - I also feel, however, that the gap should be bigger at a higher speed, as not all cars are equipped with 4 pot Brembo brakes on each wheel! ;)

Tyres are the limiting factor not the brakes, else abs would be unnecessary ;-)

Not the brightest now. Where did you buy your license?

There distance it takes to travel in 2 seconds if you are moving at 120km/hr is larger than if you were to be moving at 60km/hr.

The easiest way to see if you are at a safe following distance is to check the time it takes you to pass a point that the car in front of you has already passed.

I am driving in the right hand lane constantly passing traffic in the left. There's a string of cars ahead of me in the right hand hand lane all going 120.

I leave a safe following distance between me and the car ahead of me in the right hand lane. Some douche-nozzle comes speeding past in the left hand lane then swings back in front of me to avoid hitting the slow moving traffic in the left. Or even better, the chop comes driving 2mm from the back of my car flashing me to move over. It actually happened on my way back yesterday a guy did this *while* I was passing a few trucks on the left. The level of stupid cannot be fathomed.

This is a daily occurrence!! ESPECIALLY in Cape Town.. Yes I know in Jhb drivers feel entitled but in Cape Town it's even worse and you sense the entitlement by just looking at the driver. Usually they have this " I know what I'm doing is wrong, questionable and means you either give way or hit me but I'm gonna do it" face. Typically they drive new cars and think that everyone must just give what because they special.. I think they special in a dumb way because I won't give way especially if you in the wrong and try and force me to slow down so that you can squeeze past me just to switch lanes seconds later!

I mean it's one thing to have an air of entitlement with road laws, it's another thing to do the same wherein you basically tell the next driver to either hit you or get out of the way.. I hate these guys the most.

Now if you catch me on bad day I feel sorry for your car, your life and other things you hold dear because I don't give damn. You try and squeeze into my follow distance(usually tight due to a lot of Jhb training but I've learnt to make it impossible at times too.. Tho it's strenuous on me so I don't do it all the time and for long periods) and I will literally make your life hell even follow you home and then to the police station and back to your place!

And yes I've called cops while following people into cops trapping the dumb ass when I get really pissed and the guy is drunk, talking on the phone swerving all over the place on the highway or just an idiot of note who drives irrationally.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for passing by safely, over taking me decently, I will even move out of the way in heavy traffic.. But if you are an idiot I treat you as such.

Ps today I had an idiot do that and then this special idiot thinks, after multiple lane changes(and me easily catching up because if you know the flow of lanes and historic experiences the you know when to just sit still in a lane) he will slow my entire lane down to crawl to teach me a lesson.. Sadly for him, he didn't think I lived in the leafiest suburbs.

They walk amongst us with pride!
