Why PCFormat SA is being shut down

Problem is that not everyone has access to online resources due to connectivity issues. :(

Paper isn't really dead. NAG's readership numbers prove that. The thing with PCFormat was just that it was complete rubbish and has been for years.

PCF started going downhill a LONG time ago, back when Mlodzinski left for Dubai. I continued to be a reader until about five years ago and have almost every issue from 1 to about 140, I wonder if it's worth anything now? :D

This.

NAG is still somewhat interesting to read.

I use to buy it for the software on the DVD. IMO uncapped internet killed that magazine.

Thank goodness.

I bought every issue back in days.. 'till about 6 years ago and stopped because of biased reviews, inaccuracies etc.

Still have my collection of DVD/CD software (somewhat outdated now) somewhere in my bookshelf.

I miss Mars. That and Carmen's collection - was the YouTube of that era. Not to forget the Q&A section in the last few pages that was quite humorous. The smses that they printed at the bottom of the pages at one stage was also something to do with the magazine. In the end PCF was the best way to get access to the latest directx and software apps/game demos for me when I did not have internet.

I now have internet so the price tag does not warrant the few pages of Q&A for me.

Nag is rubbish as well imho...Just have a more loyal following somehow.

Jip Mars and Carmen were great.

NAG knows what its focus is, which is gaming. That's the difference between it and PCFormat. PCFormat covered both hardware and gaming and didn't really have enough of either. It didn't help that for quite some time they copied and pasted old content from the UK magazine instead of doing original content.

Price kills most magazines not the internet

Shucks, brings back memories... I remember the excitement of opening the new edition for the first time, looking at the glossy image, smelling that new mag smell and reading Mars' witty replies to some of the idiots out there. Oh, and of course the cd's/dvds...

I used to buy PC Format religiously when Mars Mlodzinski was still with them. I still had stacks of PCFs until not to long ago - had to get rid of it because I had no space for it :(

RIP PC Format SA
RIP Mars's favorites/funny's folder on CD (Budweiser ads etc)
RIP hours of fun playing demo games (Giants: Citizen Kabuto; Clive Barker's Undying; Max Payne etc)
RIP Cameron Losco's section.

Sad, but not unexpected.

Stopped buying a long time ago, due to better online resources being available. Also, price tag was too steep. I would've dropped the cover DVD and focused on making the magazine better.

Hahaha, I remember some of those :D

Hi Mars. Your roof needs new paint. Mark Shuttleworth - [That is the corniest thing I have ever read - Ed]
Beware the sock of July - [Why, hasn't it been washed yet? - Ed]

Has anyone noticed NAG's magazine now has the same thin "huis genoot" type paper?

I bought the latest NAG, I actually had to look twice to make sure it was a NAG magazine. :D

Apparently every year for the magazine's birthday they like to change things.
