Why people text and drive

It is really funny to see how many people start their cell phone just before driving off in a parking lot and then battle to control the car out of the parking bay.
 
I'm guilty of using Siri when I drive to read and write messages.
 
Just a question. What is the problem?

Is it text-ting whilst driving or is it not paying attention on the task at hand, which happen to be operating said motor vehicle...
 
I never text while driving...unless its stop & go traffic moving at a snails pace where I can be stationary while shooting a quick text.

I don't mind doing other things while driving...as long as I don't need to look down (as I would when writing a text)....that looking away part while travelling at speed just doesn't feel safe to me.

It's the idiot nit knowing how many drivers are compensating for that stupidity by swerving and such.
 
People should be jailed for this. It's incredibly selfish and inconsiderate to place other people's lives in danger just because you can't wait a moment to look at your phone.
 
What about the people eating/drinking while driving, something spills or falls over and first reaction is to pick it up or catch it?
Women doing their make up in traffic?
People reading a newspaper in traffic?
People speeding/driving recklessly?
Unfortunately there are too many things that distract people while driving
 
Here is an idea for all drivers... install a car kit and when you get in your car and bloooteeth has connected etc put your phone in the boot... You don't need it.. the car kit can answer calls.. Retards are the only ones that use their phones while driving..

It is amazing how many people then reply: can you not multi task?

me: not when my phone is locked in the boot.





I do answer calls via bluetooth car kit if I can, but people can also wait for a return call.

Till you are in an accident and wish you had your phone in your pocket. Self control, that's all you need.

I feel the phone is safer in the boot from smash/grab attempts, along with my bag and other stuff.
even if it is in the car with me I won't read messages etc.


How did our gransparents cope without mobile cellular phones?.
In and around cities there are more often than not other vehicles on the road with you.

If you plan on driving through the karoo, then yes, keep it with you.

They drove slower cars with less people on the road. And even if they did manage without phones, since you have it wouldn't you want to increase your chances of survival/getting help?

It is connected via blue tooth. It runs on the car's battery. Meaning the only time it won't work is if the entire front half of the car gets pancaked (likely with me in it), meaning I would not breathe nevermind call.

We are arguing over something stupid here, but let's just say in the off chance that you are pancaked and and able to make that phone call you are gonna wish you had it with you. Similarly once your car is hijacked (the boot along with it) you are also gonna wish you had it with you.

But I'll concede - if you do not have the willpower to keep your eyes of the thing while driving then leave it in the boot. Just don't go make this a law.
 
Can't wait for self-driving cars. Then people can text as much as they like without endangering others
