Why so much rage ?

So.... are riders breaking the law by passing cars between two lanes of traffic?
That depends on the speed and the lanes.

Solid lines apply to all. Bikers forget that.
Also they should not drive on the line if the traffic is moving at a decent speed.
All of that is often ignored

Source in law please?

Happened to me as well. A tattoed laaitjie who looked like a pooes on a BMW bike knocked my right mirror, leaving it hanging. Luckily I managed to get his license plate. I took a drive to his flat in Phoenix and took along a pitbull-lookaliker friend of mine to persuade him to act like not-a-pooes in future.

Sure you did...

If the biker has a helmet cam, you may find that actually, in court, you will lose if there's adequate video evidence of adequate safe space... but anyway.

Point is, lane splitting is legal and fine. Lane splitting at speeds well in excess of car speed is just stupid.

Possible, but I doubt it, given that it's based on the opinion of the driver (safety). I agree it may stand up in court if you were on the right hand side of the lane.

Forget stupidity, let's talk law. If I'm lane splitting at 120 kph on the highway, is it legal?

Lane splitting at 120km/h through traffic is stupid.

I realise I sometimes ride my bike perhaps not as carefully as I ought to. But I also realise I'm for the most part invisible to cars, and even when I encounter people who go out of their way to get in my way or try beat me at a robot, etc. I just slow down and let it go. It's not a war; we're all just trying to get from A to B while staying alive, jesus...

Reps for this post. ;)

Why the emotional response? Did you read the OP? Or perhaps you weren't referring to it...

Oh goodie. This thread again. Haven't seen it in a while.

+100

So much reffing these days...

I hate it when the Revs at Rugby games make bad decisions. The Revs at soccer games are the worst though! ;)

My hero  Such a big brave boy - why are you unable to sort your own problems out instead of taking your pitbull looking friend along?

Same thing happened to me. Bikers are all cunts!

Care to come & say that to my face? or do you need to be like Shawnie & bring a pitbull looking friend along?

If I'm driving at the speed limit on a single lane each way road, 60, and you come speeding up at 80-100 behind me I WILL STAY IN THE MIDDLE of my lane. You can then wait for oncoming traffic to clear before passing on the non-solid line. If its solid I hope there is a cop that can give you a ticket for crossing the solid line. That rule is one of the ones you need to know to pass your learners license.

Ah, another of my pet loves - ordinary citizens who like to pretend they're law enforcement. Good for you, that'll teach them!

Have no idea what's going on with the forum today.

Keep getting this:

Was trying to edit my post to say:

No doubt that there are twatwaffles on bikes, & some of the anecdotal tales in this thread show that.

Just like there are twatwaffles in cars too.

Emotional? Not really, the end bit is just my general exasperation at how worked up people get up about this sort of thing; whether it's bikers smashing mirrors, or drivers wanting to mow down bikers, or people wanting to have passionate arguments about who is in the wrong, etc. My personal feeling, whether I'm riding a bike or a car, is to just to be chill, because people are, well, just insane, a lot of the time. I'm also willing to admit that when I ride a bike, I do sometimes take chances (that being said, I often drive with people in cars as a passenger and am utterly horrified at their maverick driving, so my perception of being a bit wild on the bike is probably not as exciting as I make it sound, hehe), and also understand from a car driver's perspective why they might have an attitude towards people on bikes. But at the end of the day, as I said, we're all just trying to get from A to B in peace (not in pieces), which I make an effort to do and where I can, enable my fellow road users to do the same.

Despite all your rage you're still just a rat in a cage :D

Took the car to work yesterday, was stuck in traffic for an hour (ya ya I know hardly long in comparison to most). But, I live 5 km's from the office, so it was a lifetime for me. Sitting there, thinking about how lucky I was to be home in about an hour vs all these sorry SOB's around me who probably have another hour or more in traffic. I was like:
*start sarcasm* Can't you people all just work from home/use public transport/ not drive *end sarcasm*
Yirre the spuit was real yesterday for not using the bike

Oh dear!

Lemme guess . . . you're a biker and you think the road belongs to you and you alone.

Nope. I'm a car driver for carting the children to school.

Nope. I'm a car driver for many work meetings requiring suit & tie.

Yes. I'm a biker during the week when it's convenient & I don't need to dress in a suit for a meeting.

Yes. I'm a biker on some weekends when there's a dayjol/rally or a run to Sabie or wherever.

Yes. I'm a offroad rider on the weekends if I can get a gap between the children's activities.

So you say I'm a cnut. You're welcome to say it to my face, no need to be brave behind a keyboard.

I don't often see bikers behaving like a-holes. I do however get annoyed when on the odd occasion I can clearly see a biker well behind me and I change lanes knowing full well that I haven't come even close to him needing to adjust for my lane change, then the biker rides past and gives me the finger or points at me through the window because I dared to change lanes within a 500m radius of him.

Some bikers do genuinely act like they own the road.

Bikers lane split to be safe. We assume all other people on the road cannot see us, and don't give 2 ****s about us. If they are reckless, or damage property on purpose, that's just a dick move - pretty sure it's the same people that just leave their shopping carts at their parking spot.

Overall I agree with sentiment of the OP though - I get home in 1/4 of the time it takes a car, I'll wait a few seconds.
