Um, all of those articles are basically reposting the source article from Reuters/TechInsights. And that article is based on nothing more than guesswork. As I said, unless Apple produces an official statement on the cost of production, we can take it with a very large pinch of salt. As Tim Cook was quoted in the article, he has "never seen one that is anywhere close to being accurate".

On the one hand - of course Tim Cook would say that. He doesn't need to tell anyone how much it costs Apple to build.

On the other hand, I can't imagine that their guesses would be wildly inaccurate. They're not going to be orders of magnitude out.

Still, why is it even relevant? If Apple think people will buy it at their stated selling price, they have a right to sell it at that price. And everyone who doesn't think it's worth it, has a right not to buy it.

Fail to see why the animosity.

I mean, there's even plenty of reason to be skeptical of what he says. He has a vested interest in making people think they're getting a fair deal on the hardware they buy. But on the other hand, it's hard to take an article seriously that comes up with a cost of goods that's rounded out to the nearest .50c, like they're so confident on their numbers despite all the hundreds of NDAs and notorious secrecy of Apple around the product.

The nearest half a cent? That's pretty specific.
 
Maybe to the nearest $0.50 is used because a dollar is actually worth something versus a Rand. :crylaugh:

I wouldn't be surprised if those estimations may actually be quite conservative, anyone in the contract electronics fabrication industry in China will have a very good idea on how much the parts/materials/labour cost and then with the enormous scale of economies Apple will be able to squeeze the f**k out of potential fabricators and parts suppliers.
 
I dont get why people have such a problem if someone is willing to pay the asking price for a product. Are they annoyed because they cant afford it, or that there are people who paid enough to afford something they cant ? i.e. envy ?

I cant afford an iPhoneX, but it doesnt bother me if someone else can.
