Why you shouldn't get a Blackberry

Exact same happened to me, quick fix : Switched to Cell C and the speeds fly ;). ( Not a Cell C employee :p)

Have you got some sort of agenda going here? What you've said is a blatant mistruth. RIM is still making profits - maybe not as much as they used to - but *profits* nonetheless. I don't think they've had a loss in many years, maybe decades. Never mind increasing sales figures, and growing their subscriber base 30% last year.

I thought they only had growth in a few countries where mobile bandwidth was expensive (like SA, of course). Also thought they took huge losses on the Playbook.

+1 Apps are overrated. I have hobbies, I don't need to be on my phone unless I need to let someone know something or vice versa

A lot of add on's etc. Thing is that a lot of people develop apps for Android and IOS, while no one is really interested in developing for Blackberry. Symbian went the same way.

And tons of really great apps. I've installed at least 10 times the number of useful apps than I ever did on my Blackberry.

Windows also has tons of ****, but you would review a programme before installing it and have no issue with that.

I have said it before and I will say it again - vodacom are throttling and degrading BIS. I could care less about jvz's explanations and excuses.
I test this service everywhere I go, you never get more than 500k.
Bunch of bloody thieves and gangsters :mad:
Oh and by the way it was almost 1 month ago I was promised he would have me moved to another network....still waiting

Hi bwana, sorry for the late reply.
Opera Mini does make browsing faster since it goes through Opera's own servers which compresses and minifies the web content when delivering it to your phone.
My BlackBerry is much faster on all internet tasks since performing the steps I did, because it has more free space and less load on the device itself and thereby gives a faster browsing and downloading experience.

I might be in a low congested area, but I've also been to a braai over the weekend and there were no less than 4 BlackBerry's around me, excluding my own, so it's not that de-congested either.

Here's what doesn't make sense. The data goes from your phone through RIMs servers first anyway, which incidentally compresses the data, and then off to opera, back to RIM, and then to you and this is faster?

Hi bwana,

AFAIK RIM only encrypts web content, but does not compress it. I may be wrong, but according to what I've seen on my phone this is true. I load up a website on the BB Browser and it says "website too large, closing" and it closes the site. I load the exact same page on Opera Mini and it works without a hitch.

Answering your question then, yes I believe it goes through RIM''s Server, then to a faster Opera Server based on the closest path to the RIM Server and it gets routed back to my phone,
 
I think OM it just a better browser... that is why it is faster.

Also... it does its own compression but it only pulls the content that it needs. So it will load faster.
The BB browser will ask for everything and it will be compressed at the RIM servers.

No doubt about it... on all the BB's I have seen Opera mini is much faster than the default browser.
 
I have a bb 9300 & an iphone. Love apple stuff, have a macbook pro, mac pro & ipod touch. I despise the iphone ! Bluetooth is a joke, it may as well not have it. Forget about sending a quick text while you are walking. Battery life is dismal & the thing gobbles data faster than a toodolla crack ho in an alley. And it aint particularly quick doing anything either.
For its designed purpose i really believe they do a pretty good job. Mine has had some rough handling - even had a quick swim & keeps working like a slave !

Blame your service provider, not BlackBerry.
To the people seeing extra data charges on their bill, are you sure your apn settings are set to blackberry.net?
Are you aware that not all apps use the bis apn and WILL charge you data for usage?
I have had BlackBerry phones for 3 years now, and the only problems I have had was when BIS was down through the entire world.

We don't. We blame the SP's when it's the SP's fault, and BB when it is their fault. But it is common knowledge that BB/RIM is in decline anyway.
