Do all of these create a 2nd SSID from the main? So Dolby and Dolby_EXT?
Do they halve the speed as people say?

It may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, but in most cases I've come across, it does create another SSID. Makes troubleshooting much easier than having one big SSID.

Repeaters do halve the speed, as it introduces another hop before the signal reach your router connected to the fixed-line broadband connection. In most cases though it won't matter, as your broadband connection is much slower than the wi-fi network, even when running at 50%.

It only comes into play if you are transferring files to and from devices connected between the near and far ends of the network.

Depends how many radios in the device. Most of them have only 1.

And expect half the speed of the internet connection. Although someone pointed out that your internet connection is usually much slower than the WiFi speed....these devices usually switch modes between ap and client many times per second, and that typically introduces a delay

That’s the beauty of mesh systems- they use a dedicated channel within the 5GHz frequency to create the wireless uplink, therefore not hindering performance.

Have a look at the UniFi AC mesh units- reasonably priced and rock solid performance
