i`m setting up my own WAN (wireless). What good hardware should i use ? ( alot of my friends are NOT line of sight from me . Whats the most powerful antennas or repeaters i can use ...?

Gigabyte vs cisco ?
Price vs affordability ?

Later I intend in getting a 1 Megabit line,a uncapped isp. I have 20 friends who are willing to join.

Please assist...

LOS is the only way you will get a link, a few trees will all but totally kill the signal.

You will need to set up transit nodes to get over those hills, it is the only way to go.

The grid is a very good antenna for point-to-point links. I use a linksys wrt54g (not v5 assuming you will want to mod it).

Try using a program called radiomobile for determining LOS links.

Before you rush out and buy a grid , do some research on the flat panels / sector panels and yagi as these can do a very decent job. I feel the grid (24dBi) is a bit overkill and too directional and does'nt give a "nice" coverage spread .
Have a look on www.jawug.za.net if you have'nt already.
