Seeing Pitbull's thread and being bored at work I figured why not :p

Anyway, I'll try to keep it in the same format as the 360 thread

Wii Sport

Well its free with the system so can't complain about the price :D

Baseball: Don't play it much cause its rather hard and all you do is swing and pitch, no running nor fielding. Nice to show off the functionality though.

Bowling: My personal favorite, very easy to get into, very sensitive controls, picks up all types of spin, very challenging and one of the best multiplayer games I've played so far.

Boxing: Played it once and probably never again, unresponsive controls and very tedious gameplay equals my least favorite Wii Sport

Golf: Frankly speaking this game is not gonna improve your handicap in real life, but its a nice addition. Sometimes controls can be finicky, leading to frustration that earns you 2 or 3 extra shots on the hole. Overall fun but has its moments.

Tennis: My 2nd favorite sport, I love the simplicity of this game, just swing the racquet at the right time. Very fun in multiplayer mode and also has very sensitive controls.

There are 2 other modes (Training and Wii Sport Age) I haven't really used them, but its nice to know they are there.

Overall: Nintendo did good with this pack-in, they show off the Wii's capabilities quite nicely, throw in lots of multiplayer action and show that anyone can play (My parents enjoyed it and my 10 year old cousins broke 230 in bowling:eek: )

7/10

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

I remember playing Super Monkey Ball on my N-Gage for the first time, it was probably the 2nd best game released for that Nokia after Tony Hawk.

Playing the game that makes you tilt the stage to make a Moneky in a ball roll around could not be a more perfect example of the Wii's controller, so I ordered this game before I even had my Wii, and good thing too....

Single player: Its simple, tilt the controller, the stage tilts, capice? Well, yes and no, this is one hard game to get used to, initially the controller seems extremely sensitive and you will fall of the edge countless times until coming to grips with it. Then the fun starts, the stages are glorious, banana's everywhere, things to jump over, bosses to beat.

A very challenging game that does get frustrating at times but will keep you occupied for a while (I'm far from finishing the game)

Multiplayer: I prefer this to Single player, of course you need other people for this ;) There are 50 mini games to choose from and about half are cr@p, you get the extremely physical such as Hammer Throw where you have to swing your arm quite violently and release a button to toss it, to the extremely mundane puzzle completion. Some games the controls just simply dont work the way they supposed to, but the rest make for some awesome round robin competitions.
Except for the cr@ppy games multiplayer seriously rocks and will keep you and your friends up for hours :)

Overall: Very nice deal you get here, a solid single player option along with lots of multiplayer action

8/10

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2

I've been a DBZ fan for a long time now and seeing this for the Wii I thought "How do the controls work?"

Very good question.

Well, the simple way of putting it is that the nunchuck controls your movements and the Wiimote controls your attacks/defense.

Sounds easy, is not. This game definitely has one of the longest learning curves I've encountered but thats also due to the Wii being new. Go through the tutorials, you'll need them.

That said the control system is quite impressive in its design, using the nunchuck control stick to move and waving the nunchuck to execute dashes as well as super moves (in conjunction with the Wiimote)

Fighting is very unique, instead of the standard fighter view of both opponents you have an almost 3rd person view of your fighter, and in order to attack your opponent you have to 'Lock On' first by either pressing up while looking at him or moving next to him and getting a hit in.

Combos range from standard button smashing to perfectly timed air combo's that end with a super move doing over 20K damage (my chinese friend got that right, I just cried)

Speaking of which, multiplayer.... Its split-screen, a first for me and fighters. a bit disorientating, but works OK, personally I prefer the single player story mode, which unfortunately is extremely long and tedious. I just wanna unlock SSJ4 Goku and Vegeta!!!!!
Oh and sometimes the CPU (on medium difficulty) can become excessively hard to beat.

But anyway if you are not a DBZ fan, this game will keep you occupied for a day or two at most, otherwise you'll appreciate the effort put into the story mode and probably try to unlock everything .

DBZ fan: 7/10
Non-DBZ fan: 5/10

Very nice Supes. I'll also post a few reviews once I get my Wii games.

:L:

Hey :) This is my first post and for it I'm going to give a review on Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.

Single Player

Fun for a while but gets quite frustrating as there are very few Top to Bottom races and instead only sections of the levels (which take about 30-40 seconds to complete). There were no extremely exciting twists to the game (such as an Uberboard or something like that) and most of the characters were stupid stereotypes of various kinds of sub-cultures. Nothing exciting happens at the end of the game either which is unfortunate. Took about a week for me to complete but wasn't very challanging.

Multiplayer
This was really unsatisfying, but did have its moments of squawking and flailing. Unless both players are equally matched (not often the case), multiplayer games are never very intense.

Controls
The controls were very hard to get right at first and took a bit of practice to get used to. The turning of the remote to turn your character wasn't anything too special and didn't really utilise function of the Wii Remote well at all. Pressing buttons to do tricks also was kinda lame.

Post game completion
This is the most fun part of the game in my opinion. You get to race against "Jewel Ghosts" which are ghosts of previously set records set by the producers of the game.

Other Stuff
The speed wobbles in this game look really great, but the balance metre has been made incredibly easy to control. You actually have to try to fall over on a rail. There are several really fun shortcuts though which can add some depth to the courses, but not to as much of an extent as SSX. In fact, this game is basically a giant rip-off of SSX, but no where nearly as good. Wait for SSX Blur if you're waiting for a fun racing game.

6/10 - Fun, but wait until its cheaper before buying. Try to get it second hand if you can or just get another downhill racing game (SSX Blur).

Another Review from me (I'll do one on Zelda soon if no one has by the time I'm finished it. It's such a long game!!)

Wii Play

About
This is a fairly boring game which has the only purpose of teaching you how to use the remote through a variety of fairly dull games. 9 games in total (which you unlock one by one by playing each game. You can get this game free with a Wii Remote so its hardly a loss. I actually got the WiiPlay pack (a remote and the game) for cheaper than the cost of a single Remote. Wtf?

I'll copy the game list from Wikipedia as I feel that they describe the games much better than I could. I will give each game a rating out of 10 though.Tell me if this is a problem and if you'd prefer me to write it myself.

Games

* Table Tennis - This game is basically a game of Pong, rallying back and forth by moving the Wii remote. The Mii characters are supported, and are represented by the audience. As the game progresses, the audience grows larger. The player controls the position of their paddle with the Wii remote pointer, no swing or hit motion is used though ball direction can be altered slightly by moving the remote left or right while hitting the ball. Bottom spin can also be added by swinging the remote down quickly before hitting the ball. 6/10

* Laser Hockey - Played like air hockey, this is a two player game where the players move the Wii remote to deflect shots and try to score in the opponents goal. Aiming with the Wii remote moves the rectangular paddle around the field, while twisting the Wii remote can angle the paddle to deflect shots in any direction. According to developers, the physics engine used to calculate the velocity and position of the shots is extremely advanced, with Shigeru Miyamoto even stating that it rivaled the Havok physics engine in its realism. 4/10

* Fishing - Players use the Wii remote as a fishing rod, to hook specific paper fish and then yank upwards to grab them. The Wii remote pointer is used to move the rod around, downward and upward motions sink/raise the fishing hook in and out of the water. Different points are added and subtracted depending on the fish caught. A display at the top of the screen shows which fish gives bonus points if caught, and changes every 30 seconds or so. 1/10

* Find Mii - Crowds of Mii characters will gather on the screen (standing, swimming, walking and doing other things) and the player is given certain details to look for among them. The player then must pick out the proper Miis that matches the objective. The objectives range from picking two or three Miis that are identical, to picking the fastest Mii, or the odd Miis out (doing things that other Miis aren't). 4/10

* Pose Mii - This game can be extremely frantic and difficult. A player must move his Mii to falling bubbles using the Wii remote pointer. The player must also rotate his Mii to the correct angle of the bubble by rotating the Wii remote. In addition to this, as the game progresses, the poses inside the bubbles change, and the player must select the correct pose (out of 3 total) by cycling through them with the A and B buttons. When a Mii is correctly posed in a bubble, it bursts. If a bubbles is not burst and it eventually falls to the floor, the game is over. In the two player game, each player has different coloured bubbles, but they may pop each other`s bubbles for extra points. 3/10

* Shooting - Players go through various rounds of shooting balloons, targets, clay pigeons, cans and UFOs. There are targets that have the faces of the player's Mii's which give points when the opponent's Mii is shot. Ducks drawn in the style of the ducks from Duck Hunt also occasionally fly by. 6/10

* Billiards - Players play 9 Ball Billiards like traditional pool games. Players line up their shot in both an overhead 2D and behind-the-ball style 3D viewpoints. They may aim for contact on the cue ball at any point to add spin or bounce or a weird angle. They pull the cue stick (Wii remote) backwards, then hit it forward to launch the ball. 7/10

* Charge! - The player rides a cow by holding the Wii Remote sideways, and topples scarecrows to score points. The Wii Remote is also tilted forward to increase speed, and backward to decrease speed. The player must also jump barriers by jolting the Wii remote upwards as if jumping. 6/10

* Tanks! - This game uses the Wii Remote D-pad (or nunchuk attachment) to move a tank about the screen. The Wii Remote pointer aims on a target and the B button fires shells. Shells can rebound off walls once. There are also mines that can be placed that destroy all tanks within a certain radius. The point of the game is to destroy enemy tanks while avoiding being destroyed yourself. 5/10

Notes

Don't even bother playing this by yourself - unlike WiiSports its no fun single player.

Rating
5/10 only because it's free. Don't buy this if you don't get it for free. Pretty dull except for cow racing and snooker :)

im itching to hear about Zelda!!!

anyone here got the review??

Its sitting collecting dust on my desk, I'm too scared to put the disk in the Wii, I might never leave my house again....
I played 5 minutes of it, and the graphics are definitley the best on the Wii (woopee ding dong) but it was really easy to get into and the controls seemed responsive and natural.

So I quit and played Bowling instead, I can at least put that down after a bad round....

I'll try to do a review soon, but I've only got about a third of the way through it after playing it for nearly a month..So long! Lets just say that the start isn't that great, but it gets a lot better fast. Includes boar riding + breaking stuff.

Mmmmexcellent. Me loves breaking stuff.

@ Daniel_C : where abouts are you? Another South African Wii owner?

:L:

I just ordered Red Steel and Splinter Cell on Take2.....now i have to wait a loooong time for my stuff to come...not ordered Zelda...asked my mom in law (on holiday in the States) to get it for me...dunno if she got it or not!?!!?!?

5 Wii Games Review - Short

So this is just a short review of each game that I bought from Take2. This is by no means a comprehensive review. I probably played each game for about 30 minutes to an hour each.

I will hopefully write a more detailed review once I've played each game for longer periods of time.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz

Probably everything Supes said about it is accurate. Personally, you can definitely see that it's a game for children...very colourful, and all happy happy sweet, with cute little music and all that stuff.

It reminded me of Marble Blast Ultra on XBox Live Arcade. The controls were very sensitive, and takes a while getting used to. I enjoyed the single player game. I only completed the first stage. Then I tried the mini-games, this is where I see the potential of this game when having a party. Although some of the games are very bizarre, some are a lot of fun. I'm still waiting for my controllers then I need to invite some friends over.

Red Steel

I can see what they were trying to do with this game, but they just didn't quite get there. The controls are very iffy, and you arm will DEFINITELY get tired of holding the Wiimote up to the screen the whole time.

The aiming if very difficult and will take some time to get used to. I wanted to get my hands on the katana to give it a few swings, but never got that far. Yeah, I'm gonna have to sit down with this game for a while and get used to the controls. I'm sad that there was no training mission, like target practice or just a simply training on how to use the system, but they just through you right in to the action.

Overall graphics are OK. And I agree with what X-Play had to say about Red Steel that the explosions are really pretty, especially when you take an uzzi to some power conduits. I hope they improve the system some how for future FPS games like this one, cause I can see the potential.

Rampage:Total Destruction

Alot of people said don't bother with this game. The only reason I bought it was to relive my fun times I used to have with the good old SEGA Master System version of Ramage. Used to play for hours with my cousins destroying cities together. Now we can relive and play the updated version. And my word, I am impressed what they have done.

The controls, yet repetitive, are alot of fun. You swing the remote to the side to swing a punch to the buildings or grab stuff on the ground and smash the remote down to smash the building from the top. I'm still getting used to swinging my arms around, but yeah, I can see 4 players having lots of fun with this and destroying cities. And what do you know, you get two classic-Ramage games as well, just to relive those good old days.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

I was really looking forward to this game, and can I say, it was well worth the wait. I had alot of fun playing doctor doctor. Like an episode of Grey's Anatomy - haha.

The beginning is a bit slow and the whole dialog thing does slow the pace down, but you can skip all that if you're not interested. And the story is a little lame, but cute. I wish they would have had proper voice actors speaking then dialog boxes. Or even full motion anime movies, but I suppose it's a style...comic book style that adds to the game. In addition to that, you cannot choose what you say, like a multiple choice variation in the story when you're talking to other characters, the story unfolds by itself.

The first few operations are easy, and the nurse tells you exactly what to do and what tools to use - monkey see, monkey do. After the 5th operation or so, you're on your own. You need to select the correct tools and perform the operations on your own.

After playing for an hour, I was on Stage 2 already out of 6 or 7 missions. So I hope the game is not too short and the other chapters are a bit more lengthy. I'm loving this game and it's the most fun I've had playing doctor doctor.

Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

This one is going to be a little tricky. I have NEVER played a single Zelda game in my life before. I don't know the story of Zelda. Most of what I know about Link is from that gay character from Drawn Together...LOL...and my he even looks gay in the game...hehe

Anyway, having been that said, I knew that Zelda was the game to get for the Wii, no matter what. The introduction is a good starting point for getting to know how the Wiimote system works. I'm still trying to learn little bits and pieces, but I think practice makes perfect, and I will need sit down long and hard with this game.

Graphics side...they're good. Everyone says the best graphics that we are going to get for the Wii. But coming from the XBox 360...well what am I doing...you cannot compare the two systems. As I said, they're good, not mind blowing but decent. One peeve I have about the game is the voice acting....there is no voice acting, just reading text. I'm not sure if this is how Zelda has been throughout the years, but I thought there would have been some sort of voice overs done for the characters, instead of the "hey" or grunt they mutter out.

OK, enough about that. The controls are simple to get used to, but have only been doing small mini missions, like helping the folk around the village with small little quests. I didn't get to do the fishing or the sword fighting as I was hoping to try out. Will need to play a little more to figure out that. I was having a little problem with riding the horse. for practice you can ride around with the horse and jump over a few logs, and for some reason I could get the horse to jump over the logs. I was pushing every button I could. From what I saw, you need to boost the horse and then head straight for the logs and then it auto jumps. I'll need to read the manual for this.

It is said there is some 40 hours of gameplay for Zelda...I'm gonna be on my couch FOREVER!!

Well that's about it. As I said, these are just quick reviews. I just wanted to get a taste of each game and try it out, and give everyone some personal feedback. I'm still waiting for my other 3 games to arrive - Rayman Raving Rabbids, WarioWare: Smooth Moves and Excite Truck.

If you have any questions, please ask. I'll answer them as best I can.

I was at Supes's's's's place over the weekend and played Zelda....I can say that the little I saw was awesome and that I cant wait for my copy to arrive this week (Sunday).

IMO the graphics in Zelda are very good. Okay the Wii is not as powerful as the other next gens, but I like the graphics. An example would be LOZ:Windwaker, where Nintendo did the cell shading thing. Many people complained but I loved it. It gave a certain feel to the game. IN much the same way, the graphics in Zelda are not about realism its about phantasy. it doesnt look as snazzy as something on teh XBox would, but it more than does the job.

On the control side. Anyone who has played Zelda on GC will recognise the interface (z targeting etc) and camera controls, but with the wiimote adding a different depth. I played for about half hour..i think....and I was still struggling a little with the controls, but I started to get used to them and I could see that once you become used to them, the control system WILL lend to the games awesome-ness.

All I can say is that I had a little taste and it was good...when I get my copy I know I wont be able to put it down!!!! I expect to have many a day at work with bloodshot eyes.

Also just ordered Madden NFL (I usually hate sports games but this one is supposed to be awesome), Metal SLug Anthology (Metal slugs 1, 2, 3, X and 5 are my fave arcade games) and call of duty 3 (aparently not that good but I got it nice n cheap..so....) Will review when the arrive

hehe, closer to an hour Natas ;)
yeah, does look like fun, maybe i'll start playing it soon.

My copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess arrived last night....My 12 year old niece, who I have succesfully raised to be as big a Nintendo fan as I, and I put in a good couple of hours last night...so far the game, while being extremely fun, I have only really been involved in the gradual learning curve as mastered by Shigeru Miyamoto.

The fraction of the game which I have seen is truly amazing. The graphics are, IMO, not lacking in any way. I have fully acquainted myself with the control system and can say that it lends a sh1tload to the gameplay.

The control system is easy once you get used to it. Also, at certain points you get am auditory prompt coming from the controller. It s a small thing but its awesome. This stangely so, adds another dimension to the control system, in that you get both the rumble and an auditory cue.

Gameplay is pretty awesome as well, becoming the wolf, while a simple thing adds quite an entertaining aspect of the game. In terms of puzzles and figuring things out, it seems to be pretty standard Zelda fair, and if you are a zelda veteran, like myself, you may find the puzzle element of the game less challenging than it otherwise migt have been. I am however only 3 hours into the game and ususally Nintendo, especially in re to Zelda have a good learning curve where gamers are kinda taught how the puzzles work.

Overall, looking forward to getting really involved and I can see that I will be enjoying a game which even at this early stage, I can see why some people have earmarked it as the best game ever!!!

ZELDA POST REVIEW

Well i completed zelda about a month ago.
All i can say is..i`m DISSAPOINTED.

If you are a zelda fan and you played almost every zelda like me you too will be dissapointed.

Nintendo apparently said this will have a much better story than all other zeldas right ? NO it does not , there is the same amount of story in WW if not even LESS. At the end of the game i was like ..HUH ? What happened..At what point did evil enter the game ? It was really as if you were happily riding epona in the fields and suddenly..END BOSS..

Also this game was DEFINETELY rushed. At the last few dungeons the key of a door is RIGHT NEXT TO THE DOOR !! what the hell ? also the last dungeons are so small. smaller than first dungeon in ww. horrible.

Then there is the ghost world you play in...almost every town is empty..
castle town may have alot of people..but guess what you can only talk to about 10 of them..not nice. ( I guess thats why there are so many **** huh ? LOL )

Also where is tingle..where is the great faeries ( there is but one ) , where is the magic meter ?
Where is ALL the side quests nintendo spoke of ?

And yes i went to go look at a FAQ i did it ALL.

Don't get me wrong this is still a game YOU MUST BUY , but for a zelda fan..there is so much missing it hurts you in the end.
DEFENETELY buy it ..or else you are a moron.
But nintendo PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! make the next one better. And put in more odds and ends !

My review score through game
Beginning (9.9 AWESOME) -> Middle game ( 9.9 AWESOME ) -> Near end ( 8.0 STILL PRETTY GOOD,Starting to notice something is wrong ) -> End ( 7.5 WHAT HAPPENED ? WHERES EXTRAS ?)
