WikiLeaks posts "Insurance" encrypted file to its website

I was just reading this. Pretty cool stuff. So is AES256 that uncrackable?

what is the point of posting a file that nobody can open?

if they get arrested how are they gonna get the decryption key out?

I assume there are people with instructions to spread the key if anything happens to them.

Hmmm, I can see some people getting assassinated over this and a few data centers blowing up mysteriously.

Personally, I would not mess with the US government over military secrets... no matter the disagreement.

The whole thing is a hoax.

You wish! I don’t think Wikileaks would run a bluff in case it was called. I hope this stuff is revealed and does not stay as simple ‘insurance’. The thing to watch for are the scumbags running for cover and generating before-the-fact ‘spin’.

The site is a site dedicated to releasing leaked stuff. Now apparently they have leaked stuff and won't release it and instead encrypt it under a filename "insurance"? Why? Doesn't make sense to me. It defies the entire point of the Wikileaks project.

So, be craven and intimidated in case the big, bad US government objects. The whole reason for the existence of whistleblower organizations is that they can’t be intimidated. Otherwise there would be no point.

“We only blow the whistle on organizations that pose no threat to us.” What nonsense!

How so? You think they are untouchable? You think the founders and admins of those sites are not made of flesh and blood? And that the servers from where the sites are running are in nuclear proof bunkers? I doubt it. You might just be in line for a quick lesson in the mortality of man :D

Posting military secrets on a public website is not the only way to take on a big bad government. There are other far less lethal methods of disseminating the information.

This method smacks too much of pride and self-promotion.

Wikileaks is prolly a CIA honeypot.

they will get abducted by aliens and then anal probe till they promise not to leak any more.

Why are the American’s getting so hysterical about their dirty laundry? Skid marks in their underpants?

Heh. Heh. Heh.

You could ask the same thing about any country in the world. None of them like to have their military activities exposed. Fact of life. Deal with it.

They won't leak it if they can see it will harm the country
or individuals.
