WikiLeaks' top leaks

However, I don't see the owners of Wikileaks seeing very more years, there's bound to be someone on the payroll that will assassinate these men, and if it happens, all hell will break lose.

This scenario is plausible for the usual bureaucratic organisation however, I think WikiLeaks is different in character.

#1 The staff of WikiLeaks are motivated by idealism, rather than money so there is not much of a payroll and money is not a huge driver.
#2 Those close enough to perform the assassination will be the most educated and trusted, not the usual organisational drones driven by money.
#3 Assange is paranoid and has kept out of the clutches of countries wanting to destroy him. He is careful.
#4 Anyway, rather than the dirty work of assassination (and the resulting hoo-ha along with WikiLeaks enmity), simply notifying America where he can be found will be sufficient. Let America do the dirty work.
#5 Assange strikes me as someone who can keep 2 steps ahead of a frustrated America. They [America] are out of their league. They are used to intimidation by the sheer inertia and monolithic nature of their apparatus. They can’t handle a fast moving target who is not intimidated by American threats (they’re not geared for it). Etc.

This is their problem in Afghanistan. Fighting an enemy who is not impressed by the technological might of America. They’re not playing by the American rules. They just kill American’s with small arms.

I doubt that they will attempt to "get rid" of Assange; it will be too obvious.

What the US of A might do is to "kill" Wikileaks by employing all their supercomputers to attack the web site... to the extent that no-one can access it.

The Internet was first developed during the Cold War so that the computing facilities of America could not be taken-out with a single nuclear strike – hence the distributed nature of it. In the event of a nuclear strike, the Internet would route around the damage and continue working (albeit with reduced efficiency). The genie is out the bottle.

The Internet interprets censorship as ‘damage’ and this is what an attack on the web site will be interpreted as. Besides, apart from the (really) bad PR actions like this would generate, mirror sites exist. And other countries (while paying lip-service to American hysteria) sympathise with WikiLeak’s aims and will aid them clandestinely. Even if this only means dragging their feet, telegraphing their intentions and being unusually inept in ‘apprehending’ the dastardly American embarrassment.

So what are the docs going to say? The US tortured terrorists? Who cares?
Its war. Torture the bastards, they do it to their prisoners ;)

Yup in this country we have murders and rapists, does that mean it is ok to do the same?

How do you rationalize what you just said i wonder. Insane the way Americans and their supporters think.

Almost as insane as the way the terrorists and their supporters think? ;)

Actually exactly the same bud.

So you have basically said america is no better than the terrorists they are fighting, i always knew that but to hear it from you is really good :D

Just how do you fight against a 'dirty' opponent who'd stop at nothing to win? How low would you allow yourself to go? I'm not sure I want to know the depths my government is willing to stoop to to protect me; though ironically South Africans should know better. Lots of formerly disadvantaged people can't believe that the bulk of the white population during Apartheid simply had no clue about what was really going on, but the truth is that our government kept such a tight grip on information that we were pretty much kept in the dark. The propaganda machine worked very well. "Die Swart Gevaar", Terroriste, Kommuniste, etc. We were collectively and systemically indoctrinate to hate and fear 'The Enemy'. And here we are, years later, more than a little embarrassed to admit that we were duped by our own government into subjugating 90% of our population.

Still, something like that which wikileaks is doing makes me more than a little queasy. I don't think it's about the Truth as much as it is about some sycophantic back-slapping and high-fiveing in darker shadows of the internet. I'm not sure how 'good' this leak is. From what I've heard Assange say, he sounds like a self-important arrogant schmuck with an axe to grind.

I don't envy America their position. They're supposed to fight this war from the higher moral ground, but considering the enemy they're fighting, I don't think it can be done. You can't fight Queensberry rules in a dirty streetfight. And you can't knee your opponent in the nuts when you're supposed to be a 'Gentleman', even if your opponent's a scoundrel. Or if you do, best you make sure no-one ever knows, eh?

The guy who runs wikileaks is an arrogant tool. The ego has landed. He's just doing this for crony-cred.

To quote a very gritty game : "War. War never changes"

He opposes everything Che Guevara stood for. I wouldn’t mind a T-shirt. Leonardo DiCaprio Hollywood blockbuster film? I don’t think so (even though Leonardo and Hollywood may beg). Probably a film though.

Juslian Assange walks out of CNN interview on this topic. Watch the video on it. He totally pwned that stupid reporter.

What a hypocrite. Demands answers from others but won't answer any himself.....

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange sought refuge following the release of 400 thousand documents secret war the United States (U.S.) in Iraq.

He'll be welcomed in northwestern Pakistan with open arms.......

This is not what the fuss is about. It’s how America have projected themselves as the ‘good guys’ for so many years (all my life) while indulging in behind-the-scenes scumbaggery. The disconnect between reality and the fairy tale finally got too much for the whistleblower.

For example: if China had the same issue the general opinion would be “So what!” As shocking as it is, they have a reputation for human rights abuse. America doesn’t. It is doubtful that China even would have a whistleblower. Staff would have come to terms with the Chinese human rights violations. There wouldn’t be such a huge disconnect between reality and popular perception.
