Will 384Kbs be better/

Distance from exchange is a bullsh!t Telkom story when working at such low speeds.

Why wouldn't they want to upgrade 192 to 384 tho? It wouldn't cost them anything more. So it makes no frikkin' difference to their bottom line.

1. - Too lazy to do any work

2. - Just don't care

3. - Lower traffic volume on their rotting copper network

4. - Take pleasure in pissing people off

The traffic volume will pretty much stay the same with the bandwidth cap, and it's not really work, is it? They just have to change your account type on their side. It's like 3 seconds of admin.

Depends, higher bandwidth will lead to a demand for higher data caps. Yup it's not much work but IIRC it's not as simple as clicking a button on a PC, the DSLAM needs to be configured as well which means they need to get techies out to the exchanges. And we all know that Telkom has tons of techies

Do they have to come to your house to upgrade or is it automatically done by Telkom?

They don't come to your house... the upgrade is automatically done by Telkom and like I said, in my case, it took only 2 days. At least I know, after doing the upgrade a month earlier, that I am guaranteed 384K because I am paying for 384K and not just a "generous" Telkom upgrade to an "up to 384K" speed in a month!
