Will LCD and plasma prices go down?

With the new LED TVs, I've seen a Samsung, LG, and Sony so far that have introduced LEDs.

Will the LCDs and plasmas' prices go down? When? 6 months?
 
I think they will all end up being the same price.
They would just confuse the buyers even more.
The only benefit from buying LED is because its thinner than the others????
 
sheesh... if those prices have "come down" ... what were they before??? :eek:
 
Here's a shock for you, we bought our Sony 40" FullHD LCD in Jan 2008 at R11 999 on special @ Makro. Its now on "special" this week...for, wait for it...R13 999. Go figure??? From that, I dont think its coming down!

The usual price is 15k.
Usually a special on it.

AFAIK, the LED LCDs also have better black levels...

I read recently that a new type of back lighting is going to be introduced, to make LCDs cheaper (not talking about LED) - currently they use CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp), and they are now going to start using HCFL (hot cathode fluorescent lamp) which needs less back lighting elements, so its cheaper... so prices should come down. :D

Just read some more - some LCD TVs already have HCFL... so maybe the prices won't change :(

If my memory serves me correctly, they threw in a R2000 voucher which could also be used against the price of the LCD. Then it would be the same price that you paid in January. Thats marketing!:rolleyes:
 
Sorry for late reply...exact same model...checked the model number. Same goes for the HD PVR actually...we got ours for R3200 on special a while back. Now its R3999 on special. WTF is up with these prices??? We in a recession...rand dollar is much better than its been for a while? I really dont get this???

On top of it all, overseas, brands like Sinotec, Sansui, HiSense are unheard of, people buy Sharp, Sony, Pioneer, Hitachi, Panasonic, Samsung, NEC!!!, LG, Toshiba, Fujitsu, JVC and Panasonic, even in small time suburban malls. The price reductions are also drastic, 30% price drops on TVs. Also no stupid TV license to show but that's unrelated - just part of SA government stupidity.

SA is rip off central. We are overpriced.
