I'm a bit late to this party, can someone explain?

  • Breakin at farm he owns
  • Large amount of cash stolen ( international )
  • This was reported but the figure seems unclear
What exactly is HE being accused of? Is the source of funds dirty? Is this listed anywhere?
 
I sincerely hope not. We have nobody else that is a better fit for the role at the moment.

Explainer: The Phala Phala farmgate scandal hanging over South Africa's Ramaphosa

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been under mounting pressure since an inquiry found evidence he may have committed serious misconduct in relation to a large amount of cash stolen from his game farm.

Everything changed for Ramaphosa when South Africa's former spy chief, Arthur Fraser, walked into a police station in June and accused him of money laundering, corruption and covering up a large theft of cash.

In a sworn statement, Fraser said thieves had raided Ramaphosa's Phala Phala game farm in February 2020, found at least $4 million in foreign cash hidden in furniture, and made off with the money.

Police opened a criminal investigation into the case after Fraser's statement, which raised questions about how Ramaphosa had acquired so much cash and whether he declared it. The media dubbed it the "farmgate" scandal.

Ramaphosa said there had been a break-in and that a much smaller amount of cash - proceeds from the sale of game - had gone. He denied covering up the crime, saying he was away when it happened and that he reported it when he got the details.

Fraser's sworn statement, which included security video footage and photos, said the gang got in via a perimeter fence, ransacked then house and spent some of their haul on new vehicles.

But , that all says nothing. There is a suspicion but no charges or actual investigation or proof of any wrong doing? The enquiry just stated that there is a likelihood but its heavily based on testimony of one person and has not been tested in court?

Article states that the enquiry has no legal standing so not a proper one.

The panel's recommendations, which are not binding on lawmakers, are the first step in a lengthy process that could eventually lead to Ramaphosa's impeachment.

If I understand it, the whole purpose is to find if there is enough cause to kick off a proper full investigation. Cause is not a indication of guilt, just that there is a suspicion that requires enlightenment.

Depends on the NEC meeting today, but I think it's highly likely the NEC will tell him to **** off.

It's been in the media since yesterday that insiders and those close to Cyril say that he's considering resigning anyway.

If he opts to fight, it'll just smash the ANC across the back with a pipe more than they already have been, since if the impeachment process puts him as guilty beyond doubt and ANC pulls a unity and renewal and blocks the motion to remove him. It'll be a nightmare for them.

So regardless of what happens, Cyril is ****ed.

  • $500 000 in cash he can't explained who gave it to him
  • Was not reported to the police
  • SARS is not aware of it.

So it looks like a bribe or tax evasion.... he says its from selling his big horn cattle.


I think he did a dirty here but its clearly a smear campaign. Someone stole the money and then reported that he had all this cash just sitting there.
LOL.... what a time to be alive.

I read somewhere that it might have been a bribe destined for the ANC coffers, and he is falling on his sword.
