fair point, but then why spend almost 500ZAR a month, then you can downgrade further to R110 on aspire and get your free coffee and Kuai and wimpy vouchers, every so often get R100 off a flight ticket and still keep an FNB account,

I mean I get it, they taking away freebies, but its still possible to get something reasonable from FNB, just need to lower your expectations
Or I can just switch banks to one with a better value proposition. It's a pain but mediocrity isn't good enough.

I already am migrating my FNB business account away. Personal accounts probably following in the next couple of months.

Whenever they say we're bringing "changes"....know that it will be to your disadvantage.

Notice how premiums, subscriptions and fees etc never go up anymore, they simply change 🤣

I still seem to be making about/above my monthly account fee in eBucks, but the everyday extra value seems to be marginal (little one enjoys the starbucks; I enjoyed lounge access when flying back from DBN). I barely have much in FNB products anymore (downgraded to gold; stopped financing vehicles; homeloan is a cheap credit reserve).

Discovery looked interesting as a bank to jump to, but that hamster wheel has a lot of athletic hurdles and expenses. Capitec might be ok. Investec is bourgie and a lot more in fees, but the rewards do look very good (still to crunch actual numbers). Honestly, I can't say I'm very impressed with most bank's loyalty/rewards programes.

TBH, I get more out of VodaPay (funeral policies for aging parents really unlocks those 10% BP and Hungry Lion/Roco Mammas vouchers) and other loyalty programes.

I love FNB but the ebucks goal post shifts are becoming an itch that is persistant.
I don't mind shifting goalposts - the idea is for rewards to shift consumer behaviour. But they haven't just shifted the goalposts this time, they've gone and moved a rugby match at Loftus to tennis at Newlands. It's a complete reworking of the soul of eBucks and I'm not feeling this change

you can do that, if you willing to put up with the inconvenience and hassle of moving banks, that for some reason is made quite difficult in SA,

FNB knows they have a captive audience, and they can do things like this and still get away with it, cause they figured out they have customers for life.
enough critical mass of people will sing their praises for them to keep doing things like this,

myself? have very modest expectations and dont spend more than I need to with FNB to get something modest out,
been offered private and all the other flashy accounts many times, but always said no, as what do you actually get for the Bank fee you spend,

what does a basic and humble account (Aspire/Gold) NOT do that a flashy private banking account do?

Im on aspire, and still get my wimpy voucher, starbucks drinks and Kuai smoothie every fortnight/month/week, without much effort,
I'm not 12, I eat at home. I want ebucks to spend on things that don't go into my mouth. But I've also stopped caring about ebucks. Voetsek with your hoops and conditions.

The number one reason I originally got it was lounge access as I was flying A LOT. Especially for International Flights with a stopover at OR Tambo it was amazing. But the the 90min rule kicked in and half that value went down the drain.

neither am I, but what im saying is you dont have to be on ultra premium buisness class black with gold stripes,
you can be on a humble basic account, still get stuff, and not jump through too many hoops.

I think people's expectations are broken.

I will earn less on petrol and will have to shop at different stores. Always preferred Checkers for specific brands and then bought all products there, although Pick N Pay was cheaper with some. Now, I will have to travel between Pick N Pay (for more points) and Checkers for brand preferences. Higher petrol cost - no gain at all. I will now use my ABSA card more as I will support their rewards partners.
