Will you boycott DSTV?

Will you boycott DSTV over the planned reduction of concurrent streams?

No, peeps comfortable with their offerings won't boycott.

Seems a really st00pid move by them, but they have an example to set as they own the Irdeto security co. as well

They're also bloody expensive for what you get.
Where do you get your info?
They give latest movies, and still quite a few new series although that's limited to certain studios.
Digital Sat TV is hardly what you could call very old tech, only about 2 decades old.

Expensive only if you want to keep the good sport and M-Net, otherwise not really now.

DSTV launched their satellite service in 95 dude.

Unless they're time travellers it's an older tech than 2 decades.

Also... 2 decades is old tech. You using computers from 20 years ago still?

Welcome to the 21st century.

Does a satellite feed technically count as a stream? If not, then only I stream DSTV on my Mi Stick and my parents use the actual decoder, so it's fine for me...

But anyway, it is kak. Because how would this work in a home with 4 family members with their own TVs in their rooms and they all want to watch DSTV on different channels with only an internet connection and no decoders being involved? Why boycott DSTV over it tho? This is like when people smashed their DSTV decoders in support of Steve Hofmeyr a year or two ago (can't remember why), it's just stupid...

In conclusion, the answer is no

Stream means digital stream over ip channels , not sattelite and not showmax. So basically, DSTV Now.

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure.

I still stand by what I said after the question I asked...
Not really stupid to boycott it. Satellite is limited by your LNB and decoders so multiple TV's require wires, cabling and kit. For example, my household has zero cabling for all the viewing including TV's, phones and tablets. So now if the kids want to watch something on Cartoon network or wife wants to catch a cooking show in the kitchen, I can't watch a movie in the lounge?

Its a pretty archaic concept but then again, DSTV is one of the last to embrace real IPTV.

*edit* not a dstv subscriber but can see the stupid pain this would make. Actually installed openview a while back but with all the streaming services and news being available via streams, I actually havent even switched to that hdmi channel in ages. If my setup wasn't clean already, be tempted to remove the decoder to save space, plug point and cabling.

No, not a stream so you're fine.

They offer XtraView which also doesn't count as a stream, but they charge extra for each additional independent connection in the residence (up to 3 decoders total).

It`s 2022 and people still watch dstv? No man.
Depends on your interests. In our case, not looking to socially discuss shows only online, and get what we want without having to "stream and then lose it".
Each to their own.

Do peeps still go to cinemas? They're about a century old aren't they?
