i lost 6 of my 4x 500gb in the first 3 months. Think theres another 1 or 2 going again. Getting IO errors and stuff

My original Windows 98 SE disc split in half, right down the middle. Still don't know how that's possible cos it's so dam difficult to break a CD so cleanly...

Every seagate I have ever owned I disliked, none have failed on me but they were either too loud or too slow. All my drives are now WD except for the external which is a seagate.
Personally I have a
5 year old 400Gb IDE/PATA
2 x 2 years 320GB SATA
2 x 2 years 250GB SATA
500GB SATA
All Seagate
None have given me any problems so far. But now because of this thread all those 'sounds' that I hear some times will send fear into my heart.

Seagate owns maxtor. WD and Seagate are two completely different companies. Did you guys even know that WD has the biggest drive out now at the moment @ 2TBs?
I won't ever buy Seagate ever again. Only WD for me.
Btw, I've also only ever had hassles with samsung optical drives.

exactly the same thing happened with me, only with a 1tb instead of 500gb

I'll buy Seagate, cheap and I haven't had any problems.
Me neither, too much hassle to exchange it, my one Seagate 250GB has only failed once five months after I bought it, but one data corruption is one too many.
Western Digital is more expensive so it should be more reliable

If only that logic worked for Telkom
I'm quite fond of my 500GB Seagate. I updated its firmware the same day I received it. So far, have had no problems with it whatsoever. Powered-on hours are 342 and it runs at 27-30C.
My previous Seagate drive (which other half is currently using as a backup) has been going for seven or eight years now. No problems whatsoever :3
