Twitter > Facebook imo.

I've gotten an amazingly fun well paying remote tech job thanks to the people I've met on twitter. It's far more valuable than Facebook and LinkedIn if you use it right.

100% - I don't use FB (Not for the last 3 years)

Twitter I use to stay up to date in my industry.

Will I get a blue tick? No, for what?

I'm surprised Elon didn't just go with $5. At least that's an impulse purchase for many people, whereas $8 is not. Especially when it doesn't even remove all ads, only half.

Letting anyone have a blue checkmark seems dumb. It currently serves as an important trust seal to prevent impersonation. Even if the requirements to use your blue status included providing proof of identity and having your name locked into your profile, you'd just need another type of blue checkmark to differentiate celebrities from random people with the same name.

This is the issue I take with it. The blue tick, meant you were sure the account was verified to be the person it claims to be.

All this talk of Blue Ticks makes me nervous...

Why anyone would pay for this is beyond me:

"Blue ticks transmit African redwater and gall sickness, but also cerebral babesiosis. Animals infected with African redwater have light red watery blood, pale mucous membranes that may show jaundice, enlarged liver and spleen, and the urine is dark red in colour".

The kraai'ing and memes over this $8 charge is hysterical.

There's always Gettr...

I wouldn't even use Twitter if they paid me $8.

Also I call BS on a lot of "what is twitter" type comments the way people link drop twitter posts in NCA

I said no, but truth be told... never been a twitter user.

Would actually be good to know from those who actually use it.

What is twitter?
Twitter is a microblogging and social networking service owned by American company Twitter, Inc., on which users post and interact with messages known as "tweets". Registered users can post, like, and retweet tweets, while unregistered users only have a limited ability to read public tweets. Users interact with Twitter through browser or mobile frontend software, or programmatically via its APIs. Prior to April 2020, services were accessible via SMS.[8] Tweets were originally restricted to 140 characters, but the limit was doubled to 280 for non-CJK languages in November 2017.[9] Audio and video tweets remain limited to 140 seconds for most accounts.
