WiMax Information Guide

I waited about 2 weeks for the company to install my WiMax.

They should call you in a few days to arrange a installation date. I would recommend you be there when they install the WiMax and lay the cabling to make sure they doing a neat job.

Let us know how your installation goes! Good Luck :D

Welcome to WiMax :D

Glad we could have helped. We all new to the WiMax experience, so post how you find WiMax.
Good to hear you got good service from the installation company. What area you in?

smtp problems

i have been using wimax for a couple of months now, and am frustrated by not being able to send email thru outlook from my primary address. My address is @telkomsa.net which is purely a mailbox i pay for annually. Telkom support told me to uninstall norton. I don't believe this, as my daughter's emails go thru with the same settings. Her address is however linked to the wimax package. Any idea what smtp settings i could use? Else i'll hav to change my mailbox i guess.

Try using the SMTP server: "smtp.saix.net" for your outgoing emails.

That SMTP server doesnt need verfication, so turn off the setting "My server requires authentication"

Hope it helps!

Oh, i would recommend uninstalling Norton and rather getting AVG. Norton has been known to do weird things to one's PC.

Sorry, was a typo. I do have a Linksys Broadband Router :D

You can enter the PPPoE username and password on the router itself.

So can you or can't you conect through a router in router "mode"?

Stuff I've read here makes me think that you HAVE to connect directly, in bridge mode, is this correct?

Sorry for confusion...

You can connect the WiMax IDU to the router WAN port, then connect as normal to your WiMax (PPPOE dial-up).

What I'm not getting is if I *have* to connect using PPPoE dial-up, or if I can connect multiple PC's as you normally would through the router?:p

Wimax Availability

I see that there are many queries about getting Wimax - there are issues but they are, with a bit of persistance, aurmountable.

The best place to go is a Telkom Direct shop -they will tell you that you need to apply for ADSL - do that even when you know there are no lines - Get an order number and a reference - that when you can get things going - phone 10215/10217 and push from there

PUT YOUR REF and ORDER number on his site - perhaps Telkom will view this site and help:)

Kerep pushing - I got mine in ten days

When i ordered my WiMax, the Telkom Direct shop thought WiMax works via satellites!

That's one of the the reasons i started this tread, so WiMax users could help WiMax users :)
