Wimpy - Epic XL BBQ Bacon

I'm not sure... bacon... evil... devil :erm:

R64 because it has 3 onion rings and 2 pieces of bacon :wtf: Looks good though

I'd rather add a few bucks and make a few for myself thank-you-very-much.

I see like 5 bucks worth of bacon there tops...and thats one the ad image. Real deal...maybe R2.

I've learned recently that bacon in SA is just plain BS. All the products major retailers stock have pumped salt water brine stuff into their bacon...artificially increasing weight [*]. So I go to my local butcher...wood smoked no-BS bacon, but ugh its such a schlep.

* I've noticed a refreshing trend in SA retailers declaring their stuff cleanly though. e.g. WW/PnP will say X% brine. Escort etc does not.

Doesn't ocean basket have a prawn and chips dish for R69? I'd rather have that :p Although that burger does make me hungry!

Prefer the cheese & bacon burger from Burger Bistro, now that's delicious.

Plus the patty is 200g.

So I had one of these today, and will have it again, thoughts?

The actual product looks disgusting. Here's why:

- The bun looks doughy at the bottom and beginning to go stale on top
- The onion rings look partially burnt, left in the oil too long
- Too little bacon
- WTF is that sauce? It looks like it could be bile, old engine oil, or maybe tar... who knows for sure
- Processed cheese... :sick:
- The patty looks like it was boiled instead of grilled
- Where are the pickles, onion and tomato?
- The chips look like they might still sprout if buried

150g is not big for a beef patty. No drink included?

I'd rather have:

Ocean Basket Tygervalley: Angel Fish, Chips, Rice & Soda Fountain (I assume this is a bottomless soft drink?) *Just saw this today & haven't actually tried it. R61.90

Surf & Turf @ Spur. On special until the end of the month for R74.90. 200g steak & 125g calamari. Chips & onions. But 2 out of 3 times I've had this recently I had to send it back due to the steak being way undercooked for my requested 'medium'.

Ocean Basket does seem to have picked up their game a bit recently. Plus they aren't half bad on the sushi side either.

~~~~~~~ story ~~~~~~~
e.g. I went to one recently, ordered like 500 bucks of sushi platters for myself & companions. Waiter comes back a while later and tells me rather pick this & this because it would be better. Colour me skeptical at this new development...so I tell him I wanted the salmon plates. Waiter says they can make a plan. End result...got a pile of tuna plates at tuna prices with the tuna replaced by salmon. So much win. :D
Off topic - the best part of the experience was the waiter tbh. He wasn't impressive in any obvious way...but you could see he is really trying to make this work. Not something I see a lot of in SA.
It might have been an isolated case, but I'll definitely be returning.
Shortly after that I went to a place that kinda half specializes in sushi & is popular with students (Kungfu Kitchen). I shall not be returning to that place....
For that price I will rather drive to Dukes and have me a Thelma & Louise burger that comes with thin slices of pear, a fig reduction and drizzled with a little bit of blue cheese sause! DELICOUS!
