Need some help here please,
A client want to replace Vista Home Basic with Win 7 on his eMachine D260 laptop.
It is a first time customer and it seems that he is using the laptop for basic e-mail, facebook and limited web browsing.

He connects to Internet via Bluetooth and cell (Gprs connection). He use MSO 2007 for small business.

He is very unhappy with Vista and the laptop performance, but the salesperson that sold him the laptop, told him that "XP would not fit on the laptop":eek:when he asked them if they could replace Vista with XP.

I will be adding 1GB ram to current 1GB to try and help a bit with the performance.

Now it is my turn to be not so clued up.
Win 7 Home Basic vs Win 7 Home Premium
I saw a couple of Areo, Touch, Media Centre, etc. differences, but are there any serious reasons not to sell the basic option to mentioned type of user.
Could the Basic version be compared to the "Starter" versions of XP, which weren't very gr8 or is it better to fork out R200.00 and buy Home premium, which is a full Windows 7 release.

Please remember that I'm not comparing the 2 releases to see which is the best Win 7, but rather which one is the best for the client.

Thx

no, the Win7 Home Basic is halfway between the starter edition and Windows XP Home. The premium version just adds some more bells and whistles. I would go for the basic for this guy. It does support unlimited applications but does not have all the networking crap that all the other higher ones do. If it is cheaper then get it for him. Install some nice free apps for him and he will be quite happy.

Premium contains the media side of Windows. If the client would be fine without Windows Media Centre then Basic should be fine; Aero would just slow the machine down further.

Thx for the input. I'm pretty sure WMC won't count any points for this guy.
