Hi all, i seriously need some help with windows 7 wlan. I turn it on at home using a Billion router, it finds the wlan and connects to it but after a minute or 2 it automatically disconnects. and wouldnt connect again. For the short time it is connected, the internet still does not work, it just keeps loading the page but nothing appears. I also cant ping once its disconnects.
Using the same laptop at work, the wlan works perfectly without interruptions. At work im also using a Billion router but different model.

Any suggestions?

I have had endless problems of a similar nature with Vista Home Prem 64bit though. When connected and you ping the router does it give a General Failure error sometimes? Just curious to see.

I downgraded to XP and it all works 100%. Could have been faulty drivers or something.

i have also struggled with the same problem in vista andwindows 7.
but i managed to get around it by manually configuring ip,subnet, gateway and dns. for some reason the "obtain ip address automatically" option doesnt work to well.

Hi, i am thinking that it might be the faulty drivers or it might be the firmware version that you are using. Can you please tell us which model is it!then we can send you the latest firmware for that model and you can upgrade it and let us know if you need any further assistance.

I doubt it windows 7 though, i have a billion and my Wlan works 100%, did you click on reconnect automatically?

How good is the signal you get? I get 4 bars all the time.

wow thanks for all the replies. I get 4-5 bars everytime and i have enabled roconnect automatically.

Billion.air, i have the Billion B-7300GRA.

Jonny two, when connected to the network with limited access then only do i get a general failure but not when the internet works.

Ye I have had to reset router countless times and change security over and over again just to keep it stable on Vista. I'm sure it has to do with faulty drivers or something OS related because the card and router works perfectly when on XP.

On Vista I tried everything from changing the routers config to disabling firewalls and changing Vista network settings and security as well as Wireless Card settings in Device Manager. Just never could come right. Send a cable to the same router and it works fine as well though. So that only leaves me with either driver or OS related issue for wireless. It was a fairly old Gigabyte Wireless Card made shortly before Vista though.

hey sorry for the late reply, the software on the router is 1.06f. Do you have anything for this?

I did the fw upgrade to 1.06g on my router now but still not working. I dont even know what changes the fw upgrade did because everything seems the same to me.

The HP site does not have drivers for the Atheros adapter, only for Broadcom adapters. Damn this is so irritating!

My Mecer laptop did that, but that was on vista. ooh vista can finaly go away now!

if it's wan connectivity, try manually setting dns to 196.43.34.90 or 196.43.50.190. vista sp1 and win7 (and also xp sp3) have a new schema for resolving dns.

Ok i just did a windows update now and the update consisted of some updates for the Atheros wireless lan so now my problem seems to be sorted out but i need to use it long enough to be sure.

Does any1 know how to backup the setup files of the update?
