My car (SUV) doesn't have a parcel shelf at the back, so you can see what's on offer.

I'm thinking I'll tint the windows (barring the windscreen obviously) and rectify this.

Any hidden aspects to consider (never had this applied before)?
Any preferred vendors / products to look out for?

Where to go in CPT?

Thanks!

Yeah, go as dark as possible. Don't know the brands very well but they are all pretty much the same I assume.
Except the okes doing it next to the road. Stay away from them.

What happened to the parcel shelf? Or are you driving a Kia Sonet panel van?
They fscking expensive those things. Especially the German ones.
First thing the guy asked me when I sold my previous Cayenne was do i have that thing.

The legal limit is 35%. This means the film must allow 35% of visible light through the window. Any darker than 35% is illegal and can result in a being fined by traffic law enforcement. Regulations allow for a 35% VLT window film to be applied to the side and back windows of a vehicle. Front windscreens require a 70% visible light transmission on all vehicles.

Does this still apply in Lawless South Africa?

You'll immediately notice a huge difference in UV radiation exposure from tinting your windows as well. Every car I've had for the last 12 years has had smash and grab tinting. It's definitely a good investment, I wouldn't drive a car that doesn't have it.

Yeah, goodluck at night, in the rain, trying to reverse or park

Agreed, don't just go as dark as possible.

My car had smash & grab tinting done at the dealership including on the rear passenger windows that are privacy glass already. They said they would go lighter to accommodate the privacy glass but it's still way way darker than the front and hectic at night.

Thanks, the night part is interesting - hadn't thought of that. Vehicle has reverse cam, so parking isn't so much an issue, but night time would be.

My SUV has Privacy glass which I believe is 20% on the back window and rear passenger wind. Front sides windows have 35% tint on.

As others say, it can be a bit tricky during the night but one rarely uses ones rear windows to park. Its more to see your surroundings with one using the Rear PDC or camera and side mirrors. At night I have to let my front side windows down to see the mirrors to reverse park with the 35% tint.

I do think with many vehicles coming from factory with privacy glass which is 20% if not darker on certain brands, I'm sure you can get away with a darker tint in the rear but 35% in the front side windows.

This! Seriously.

My iX had smash & grab, then I got an Ecosport with nothing. It's something you immediately notice and miss. Luckily got the darkest legal smash & grab on my BMW now. I'd definitely advise you to get this done.
