Morning peoples,

My son's PC shows 100% disk usage although on Task Manager all the shows 0/mb.
I have read about the "fixes" but I did a fresh install in January.
Apps takes ages to open. I'm starting to think this is the culprit for his blackscreen/audio stutter freeze sometimes.

Just wanted to know what can cause this?

probably updates or something, just get a ssd it will resolve the problem.
Lol wtf. How will a ssd resolve the problem of win10 doing something in the background. You will see less load % but it wont solve the problem

Weird thing is I can't pick anything up on resource manager.
All the apps show normal or am I missing something?
Check cpu usage in task manager to see which app is running hot. Maybe that helps identifying the issue

Ssd does not take time read and write data so it does not slow down the system. That means process windows is doing will get done much quicker and you wont feel performance dip.

Yes most know this. But you are proposing a radical band aid instead of finding the real problem

Moving from hdd to ssd solved this problem for me. Also tried all the other fixes, disabling superfetch, etc. Nothing worked except the ssd.

its windows 10. i just bought a new machine. using it about a month now and im getting very frustrated. its sooo slow!

I thought this problem was fixed with a windows update (are updates disabled). Disabling "superfetch" sometimes works and Windows update can be stuck in updating (have to delete an update and reinstall).

SSD will fix it or a format reinstall but try and get a more recent windows 10 if you gonna do that.

my windows just did an update last week. problem is still the same. i will try disabling the superfetch and see if that makes any difference

Also to note that if the machine is infected with Malware, it may hide itself in Task Manager/Resource Manager.

I get this issue on all new Dell machines with the standard 1TB Hard Drives. There is a serious unnoticed issue here in the general IT community. These 1TB drives with Win10 are a dogshit combo and being sold with almost every mid-low range laptop in public. I see it so regularly yet no one seems to be talking about it. Many older laptops that performed well initially with the 1TB drivers are also increasingly losing performance not attributable to normal Windows rot and so on.

Subsequently I never sell a laptop that does not have an SSD anymore. I refuse to support them. If it comes with a standard HDD I recommend aftermarket SSD before I touch it. I regularly clone HDD's to SSD's to help out old PC's too nowadays. An HDD as secondary drive is fine though as long as OS on primary drive is SSD.

What has actually caused this problem remains to be seen. Until we know the cause, stay away from these new HDD's. I have heard some people having success reinstalling controller drivers but no luck on my side on the few I've tried.
