FML, I cant get this to work. Firstly, it takes AGES to download, then it verifies the download to 97% , and restarts. This after getting countless errors etc. I give up.

I didn't bother installing it. I'm not going to mess with something that's working fine at the moment.

Microsoft Media Creation Tool (needs to be installed) has an option to run upgrades (without writing to CD/DVD), I used it for the anniversary update instead of using Windows Updates.

Except that doesnt work. Only way I could do it was to download an ISO to a bootable USB.
Nope. If you go that way (using Media Download Tool), the correct way is to download ISO and save it on the hard drive as a file. You can then transfer ISO file to USB stick using Rufus or other tool. Microsoft tool has problems UEFI boot.

Only if you do not follow the correct procedure ....... THEN you have problems.

This tensforum tutorial sorts out the UEFI issues some have ..... with a clean install

Site is not bad, a bit bloated in my opinion, but it is not why I make this comment. You seem to suggest that advice given on this forum is not good, inferior to the above. And now:

I don't want to follow "correct procedure", I expect working software, which is not a case. It is why I suggest solutions which work the best and are the easiest to implement. For this reason I advice to use Rufus, RMPrep, etc... instead of solutions suggested by Microsoft. I didn't mention important fact that when Microsoft Media Creation Tool fails to create USB stick, the entire downloaded file is deleted. Perfectly good file is deleted, as Microsoft wishes so. I don't want it to happen it to you and my advice is honest.

I agree with your comment regarding MS solutions. That is why I find the tensforum so useful, because it has combined user experiences with the MS solutions and in that way prevents failed upgrades and updates.

I have always found an answer to any issues I have with WIN 10 on that forum.

SOPs are important and do work if constantly modified as and when problems are found. So I have no issues with following SOPs instead of trying to fly by the seat of my pants.

Yes I am sure there are many other ways of reaching the same end result with 3rd party software as well. BUT, to the ordinary user out there, who may not be steeped in IT , the simpler the solution, the better.

Everything you need you get on this forum, not only Microsoft's approved solutions (like on tensforum), but independent one.
